Garret Mountain can be a terrific spot for songbird migration in spring, and its location on the Watchung Ridge means some days there are raptors overhead as well. Once you enter the park from Mountain Ave, go right (it’s a one-way road), and the meeting place/parking lot is the first lot immediately on your left. Search maritime forest for migrant vireos, tanagers, and warblers. We’ll also spend time checking out waterbirds in the marshes. Spring birding at one the state’s most beautiful parks. We’ll look for migrant songbirds and survey bayside wetlands for a variety of waterbirds including herons, ibis, and terns. We'll meet just outside of the park entrance, in the median parking lot at the end of Rt. 35. There is a $5 entry fee to the park if you don’t have a state park pass or are less than 62 years old.
