Above Par Birding at Cox Hall Creek – April 6, 2025

Leaders: Roger Horn, Bernie Hodgdon.

Temp: 54° F

Winds:  SW 12 mph

Weather Conditions: sunny with light clouds

A nice morning for the first walk of the year at Cox Hall Creek WMA. Mild temps, low SW wind and clear skies. Wood Ducks flew over as we started our walk and Pine Warblers, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Eastern Phoebes and Palm Warblers were all moving about quickly looking for food. These new north bound migrants were accompanied by several Hermit Thrushes. Additionally, some of our winter birds like Yellow-rumped Warblers, Brown Creeper and a Red-breasted Nuthatch were also feeding on tree trunks and branches. We watched them pull lichen off some branches that then fluttered to the ground around us, while they pecked at whatever was underneath. 41 species “not too shabby”.
