Birding Cape May Point – July 26, 2025

Late July is always an interesting time to bird the state park. Shorebirds have started their southbound migration, adult and recently fledged Purple Martins are everywhere, adult Laughing Gulls have started to molt their black heads, and their youngsters are brown feathered, finely etched in white. Since White Ibis moved in a few years ago, we’ve become accustomed to seeing the flocks overhead; today there were a lot of juveniles mixed in. Many swallows fed over the ponds, with Tree, Barn and Northern Rough-winged present.
