Birding Cape May Point – March 9, 2024

Leaders: Kathy Horn, Roger Horn, Bernie Hodgdon

Temp: 42°F

Winds: NE 15mph

Weather Conditions: cloudy

Most of the action during this morning’s walk at the State Park was over the water. Northern Gannets were streaming by the hundreds, a Horned Grebe, Red-breasted Merganser and Long-tailed Ducks were feeding in the surf close to the beach, and scoters and loons flew a bit further out. Roosting on the beach were a good variety of gull species in various plumages. A Common Raven, until quite recently a very uncommon species here, was being chased by a group of American Crows and later a group of Fish Crows flew over, obliging calling to confirm their ID.
