Exploring the John Clyde Memorial Native Grassland Preserve for Breeding Birds and Migrants
Led by Chris and Paula Williams, Associate Naturalists. We’ll walk through field and forest to look for migrant birds returning to NJ or just passing through. Grasshopper Sparrow, Bobolink, and American Kestrel, state threatened species, are found on this site. Bring binoculars if you have them. This site is one of the first grassland restoration projects NJ Audubon has implemented for Franklin Township Open Space Committee. Assunpink WMA
Late spring songbird migrants plus breeding species including both cuckoos & Yellow-breasted Chat at this productive central jersey hotspot. This productive locale has a mix of fields, woods, wetlands, and lakes. Spring songbird migrants plus breeding species including Yellow-billed and Black-billed Cuckoos, Yellow-breasted Chat and more. We’ll check the lake and adjacent wetlands for waterbirds. Bring lunch and be prepared for a moderate amount of walking over varied terrain. NOTE: there are no restrooms at Assunpink, so plan accordingly. Sometimes there is one port-a-john available. Led by Scott Barnes and Carole Hughes. Location: Meet at the Lake Assunpink Boat Launch just north of the intersection of Imlaystown Rd and Clarksburg-Robbinsville Rd.
