Becker Farm Birding Meander
Explore both field and forest while enjoying beautiful vistas of the Passaic River Valley. This is the right time to discover late breeding birds like American Goldfinch plus early “fall” migrants and dispersing young birds that are not quite sure where they belong after their parents have left. Becker Farm dates back to 1880 when it was a farm. Over the years this farm added its famous railroad which entertained families for over 30 years. The now abandoned farm is a great place to spot grassland birds. Pollinator Gardening
If you'd like to see more color in your yard and hear more bird songs, join us for this 45 minute presentation on how to create a garden for wildlife in any outdoor space. Whether in your yard, school grounds, business, or place of worship, a Certified Wildlife Habitat can be created anywhere with a few resources necessary for pollinator and songbird survival. There will be time at the end to ask questions. A link will be emailed to you. Presenters: Avani Prakash is an intern with NJ Audubon and teaches about how to garden for wildlife. Avani grew up in Princeton Junction. As a student at Northeastern University in Boston, she majors in Environmental Studies and minors in Sociology. Her favorite flowers are touch-me-nots. During this presentation, Avani will teach us why it is important to plant natives, how to attract pollinators and songbirds, and how to be responsible stewards of the land where we live, learn, play, work and worship. Kristin Hock is the Habitat Outreach Coordinator for NJ Audubon. Combining her years working as a wildlife biologist, organic vegetable farmer, and environmental educator, Kristin now teaches NJ residents how to Garden for Wildlife™ and how to become a Certified Wildlife Habitat®.
