Fall birding at the hook: we may encounter anything from shorebirds and terns to flycatchers, sparrows, and warblers. Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR

Fall birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Expect shorebirds, wading birds, marsh birds, and raptors. Early November can be an excellent time to see a variety of waterfowl, lingering shorebirds, raptors including good numbers of eagles, and late season songbird migrants. Some songbirds may be present in the woods and fields. Led by Mike Mandracchia and Hank Burk. Location: 800 Great Creek Road, Oceanville, Forsythe NWR at main lot by headquarters. South Mountain Reservation Birding Meander

South Mountain Reservation - Oakdale Lot just past the Regatta Playground on the left coming from Northfield Ave side. Cherry Lane, Cherry Lane, Cherry Lane, Cherry Lane, West Orange, NJ, United States

We will hike several trails in search of late fall migrants. Target species include both woodland passerines and ducks on the reservoir. NJ Young Birders Club-Sandy Hook

Late fall birding at "the hook" focusing on waterfowl and seabirds, as well as raptors and field birds. Waterfowl should be around in good numbers, and we’ll hope for some seabird migration along the ocean where we could find numerous scoters, loons, gannets, and gulls. Mid-November can be a good time for oddities as well, and we’ll explore the hook’s thickets and woods for late-fall land birds. Trip is open to youth ages 11-17 who are interested in birds plus parents/guardian.  Trip is free but pre-registration is required. Led by Scott Barnes and Carole Hughes. This can be an excellent time of year at “Brig,” when eagles and other raptors are in evidence, plus large numbers of geese and ducks. We may also find sparrows and other songbirds along the dikes and keep our eyes out for secretive marsh birds like American Bittern and rails. Bring lunch and weather appropriate clothing. Barnegat Lighthouse State Park

Harlequins & other sea ducks; plus, loons and gannets. We'll visit some nearby bayside spots after birding the inlet for additional species. Early winter birding for Harlequin Ducks, eiders, and scoters. In some years seabird migration is still underway, and we may also see many gulls, loons and gannets. The beaches may host Horned Larks, Am. Pipits, and/or Snow Buntings. After birding the lighthouse/inlet area, we'll caravan to nearby bayside spots for more species. Island Beach State Park

This beautiful park can be great for a wide variety of migrant birds from shorebirds to waders, falcons, thrushes & warblers. One of the This beautiful park can be great for early winter waterfowl, seabirds, and birds of prey. We'll also look for Snow Buntings and Horned Larks. Our focus will be on waterbirds at this beautiful and productive park. We’ll search for a variety of scoters, maybe some eiders, other ducks, loons, grebes, and gulls from various spots overlooking the ocean and Barnegat Bay. Raptors, sparrows, and perhaps some Snow Buntings or even a Lapland Longspur may be present along the beaches. There is a $5 entry fee for NJ residents who do not have a state park pass. Persons 65 years of age or older get free entry. Be prepared for several hours of walking on flat terrain, sometimes sandy. Bring lunch. Led by Scott Barnes and Linda Mack A NOTE ON MEETING LOCATION!
