Fall Birding at Hawk Rise Sanctuary

Hawk Rise Sanctuary 1811 Lower Rd, Linden, NJ, United States

Explore the various habitats at Hawk Rise Sanctuary to look for spring migrants. Join NJ Audubon Program Director Scott Barnes and associate naturalists for a leisurely walk at the sanctuary. We’ll look for woodpeckers, thrushes and warblers in the woods and wetland birds like herons, egrets, and Ospreys along the Rahway River. Sandy Hook Birding

Sandy Hook - Lot B Hartshorne Drive, Sandy Hook, NJ, United States

Late October can be excellent for migratory songbirds and other species at this coastal hotspot. We may encounter terns, waders, warblers and more. Fall birding at a “crossover time” when neotropic migrants mix with incoming raptors and sparrows. A wide variety of habitats ensures good birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking on flat and sandy terrain. Bring lunch and dress for the weather. Led by Scott Barnes and Linda Mack. Troy Meadows Birding Walk

Troy Meadows in Parsippany/East Hanover is an excellent place to encounter ducks, herons, and marsh birds, plus migrating passerines. Footing can be wet.  Led by David Hall. Island Beach State Park

This beautiful park can be great for a wide variety of migrant birds from shorebirds to waders, falcons, thrushes & warblers. One of the gems of the state park system, Island Beach has miles of beach, tidal wetlands, maritime forest and thickets that can host a good diversity of birds, especially if the winds are right. There is a $5 entry fee for NJ residents who do not have a state park pass or are 65 years of age or older. Be prepared for several hours of walking on flat terrain, sometimes sandy. Bring lunch.
