E-Z Birding at the Cape May Point State Park
Cape May Point State Park Hawkwatch Platform NJJoin CMBO naturalists for 2 hours of birding around the Cape May Point State Park! E-Z Birding is for beginning birders and for those want to learn more about the birds and how to find them. Cape May Point State Park is a great place to bird with a variety of habitats - woods, fields, ponds, dunes, and beach! PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $8 members, $12 nonmembers. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. Hilltop Reservation
Hilltop Reservation Courter Ln, North CaldwellExplore edge and meadow habitats for fall migrants with an easy walk through the reservation. We will also explore the restored meadow habitat for Bluebirds as well as butterflies and other insects. Led by Dave Hall, Associate Naturalist Location: Mountain Avenue and Courter Lane, North Caldwell, NJ 07006. Great Bay Blvd WMA
Stanley H. "Tip" Seaman County Park 120 Lakeside Drive, TuckertonThis large tidal marsh is great for shorebirds, rails, long-legged waders, Saltmarsh Nelson’s, and Seaside Sparrows, and songbird migrants. The so-called "Seven Bridges Rd" area of Great Bay Blvd WMA has some of the best salt marshes in the state, and is a magnet for wading birds and other tidal species. If the winds are right, we could see passerine migrants in the scrub-shrub patches along the route. Led by Scott Barnes and Amy Davis Location: Meets at Stanley H. Gain an understanding of the project while taking a closer look at how and why songbirds are being banded at the Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows. Most importantly, learn how songbird banding is being utilized to inform decisions on conservation policy development, species conservation, and land stewardship initiatives. NJ Audubon Hawk Watches at Scherman Hoffman Observation Deck
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, BernardsvilleJoin NJ Audubon Naturalist on the observation deck for a bird’s eye view of fall migration. Join our Naturalist on the observation deck for a bird’s eye view of fall migration. We'll be looking for migrating raptors and any passerines passing through. Marvel at the spectacular view of Broad-winged Hawk kettles as they fly over the sanctuary, Bald Eagles, and other raptors. Hawk Watches are scheduled for Thursdays, 9/29 and 10/13 through 27 from 1:00 to 3:30 PM. Note: a hawk watch day will be cancelled if there is rain, snow, or weather warnings. Registration and fee are per date. You must pre-register for each date you wish to attend. Ticket sales ends at 4:00 PM on the day before each hawk watch. One person per ticket.
