Join CMBO naturalists for 3 hours of birding in Belleplain State Forest! The varied habitats of this wonderful forest yield an amazing diversity of spring migrants and breeders. Highlights including Summer Tanager, Hooded Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher, Louisiana Waterthrush, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo, are near the northern limit of their breeding range in Belleplain. Our leaders know the best spots! CARPOOLING ENCOURAGED. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $12 members, $18 nonmembers. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s CMBO programs are virtually never cancelled. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however, registrations can be transferred to another program in the future.

Join CMBO naturalists for 2 hours of birding around beautiful Cape May Point! The “shoulder season” in Cape May is a wonderful time for birding and there’s no better place to do it than the Cape May Point State Park. With its diversity of habitat – beach, dunes, ponds, forest, and marsh – it’s the perfect spot for migrating waterfowl, songbirds and shorebirds to stop and refuel as the push of spring migration begins. We’ll travel the trails, check out CMBO’s Northwood Center and other surrounding hotspots on The Point, as we soak up the wonder of this annual phenomenon of Nature. Join us every Saturday for 2 hours of birding at the Cape May Point State Park and let us share with you the wonder of this special time of year. Spring birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Expect good numbers of ducks, long-legged wading birds, plus shorebirds and songbirds. Mid-April brings many herons, egrets, and shorebirds to the refuge, as well as returning breeding species. We may also find sparrows and other songbirds along the dikes and keep our eyes out for secretive marsh birds like American Bittern and rails. Bring lunch and weather appropriate clothing. Led by Mike Mandracchia and Hank Burk. This family walk is designed to introduce novices to the joys of birding at a unique habitat in the Meadowlands!  Join us on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM for a spring bird walk designed for young birders and novices, though any level of knowledge is welcome! This event will take place at the beautiful Richard W. DeKorte Park in the Meadowlands, where we will observe vibrant bird life in the beginning of spring migration season. Whether you're a seasoned birder or just starting out, this event is perfect for the whole family to enjoy together. This bird walk is specifically for children, teens, and families. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about NJ's native birds and the wonders of migration. This walk will run rain or shine so please dress appropriately. We can't wait to see you there! COST: FREE FAQ: Is this a drop-off program? No. If the child is 16+ they may attend without supervision but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. What is the recommended donation for this program? Recommended donation is $10 per family. Individuals may donate whatever they wish. Will there be binoculars that I can borrow? Yes. NJA will provide binoculars and any other necessary gear but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Will this event be cancelled or postponed in the case of bad weather?
