New Jersey Audubon Photography Instructors’ Spring Exhibition
The New Jersey Audubon Photography Instructors’ Spring Exhibition will be held April 1 through June 29, 2024. The Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary is hosting a digital photography exhibit from April 1 to June 29, 2024. It will feature an impressive lineup of New Jersey Audubon photography instructors including Phil and Becky Witt, Jack and Ellen Moskowitz, and David and Cathy DesRochers. Visitors can anticipate a diverse range of photographic styles and subjects, showcasing the instructors’ expertise and the unique perspectives they bring to the art form. The exhibit aims to not only celebrate the beauty of nature but also inspire a deeper connection with the environment and a renewed commitment to conservation. The NJ Audubon Center invites both photography enthusiasts and nature lovers to immerse themselves in this enriching exhibit. Heather Holm: The Pollination of Native Plants, A Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event
Are you interested in learning the ecological secrets of our native flowers? Join Heather Holm, a pollinator conservationist and award-winning author, as she explains the developmental journey of different flower types and the presentation of floral resources to pollinators. We will be exploring the types of insect pollinators, their foraging behavior, and the floral features that attract pollinators. Heather will provide many specific examples of how native plants are pollinated and what pollinator is most effective and why. Preregistration is suggested. COST: FREE PARKING: Street parking around the Cape May Point Science Center CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s CMBO programs are virtually never cancelled. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Writing Nature (Session 1): Watery World
Celebrate your inner poet with Cape May's Poet Laureate, Sylvia Baer! These workshops will focus on using the natural world as a "springboard" for writing poetry. We will explore and "play with" several different poetic forms including sonnets, villanelles, and free-verse. And we will use the wonderful resources and views afforded us at our extraordinary venue. No experience is necessary and no one will be required to share any writing. Each session will focus on different elements and be independent of each other. Sylvia Baer who is a teacher, poet, storyteller, and translator has lived in many countries and speaks several languages. She has been teaching English Literature for over 50 years and has created creative writing programs and publications and been the founding editor of several national academic publications. She is a graduate of Northfield School (now NMH), Washington College (BA and MA) and The University of Maryland (PhD), an Associate Fellow of Yale University (Davenport), and was recently named the Poet Laureate of Cape May, NJ, where you can visit her Poet-Tree. Her book, Learning Life: A Memoir was published in August of 2022. WHEN: Wednesday, June 5th 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM COST: $25 Members, $30 Non-member. CANCELLATION POLICY: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. Enjoy a variety of activities focused on giving you a taste of nature camp fun while sipping delicious brews. **Activities** include camp favorite games, animal encounters, craft stations for the little ones, live music by Kickstart, food trucks, and of course, tasty brews for the adults. There will be something for everyone to enjoy! Don't miss out on this fantastic event that combines nature, creativity, and relaxation.
