Maple Sugaring

Discover the fascinating process of making maple syrup and learn about the trees that produce this golden treat. Don't miss this chance to satisfy your sweet tooth and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon in nature. See you there! This workshop is an all-ages program. All participants require a ticket for this event. Learn about the history and techniques of maple syrup production while enjoying the winter atmosphere of the sanctuary. This is an in-person event that you won't want to miss. Come and experience the magic of maple syrup with us! This program is intended for families and adults, it is not a drop-off children's program. This activity includes a naturalist-led walk through the nature sanctuary and is a drop-in program, the boil will be taking place throughout the 3-hour window. Lorrimer Community Volunteer Day
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesWelcome to the Lorrimer Community Volunteer Day! Help us clean up and beautify Lorrimer Sanctuary for spring! We will run a deer drive, weed our native garden, and do light trail clean-up. Join us on Wed, Apr 03, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Lorrimer Sanctuary for a day of giving back to our community. This event is a great opportunity to meet new people, enjoy nature, and make a positive impact on the environment. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or new to community service, there's a place for everyone at the Lorrimer's Community Volunteer Day. Tasks may include light trail maintenance, walking through the woods for a deer drive, or weeding and garden clean-up in preparation for spring. Please wear comfortable clothes, shoes that can get muddy, and bring a water bottle. Light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring food for break times while we get to know the other members of our volunteer crew! Forest Stewardship Volunteer Opportunity Come join us at New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary to volunteer and help our staff manage our forest! Theses in-person volunteer days allow you to get hands-on experience in caring for our beautiful forests. Help maintain trails, and learn about and remove invasive species. No experience necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help out! Don't miss this chance to make a positive impact on the environment and connect with like-minded individuals. Sign up now to secure your spot! This will be a recurring event. Please register for one or more days! Please make sure to wear long sleeves and plants , bring bug spray & sunscreen, Please wear comfortable clothes, shoes that can get muddy, and bring a water bottle. We will be using gloves, hand clippers, pruners, loppers and our hands to pull invasives. If you have a preferred set you enjoy using at home please bring them. You will be asked to fill out a volunteer form upon arrival. Please meet in our upper parking lot near the garage doors. FAQ: Do I need to stay for all 2 hours? No! We will welcome your help for as much time as you have available. Can children come? Yes, kids can definitely get involved! We will have activities like picking up sticks and light weeding that are perfect for young hands. Will you cancel in case of poor weather? Spring Family Bird Walk at DeKorte Park

This family walk is designed to introduce novices to the joys of birding at a unique habitat in the Meadowlands! Join us on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM for a spring bird walk designed for young birders and novices, though any level of knowledge is welcome! This event will take place at the beautiful Richard W. DeKorte Park in the Meadowlands, where we will observe vibrant bird life in the beginning of spring migration season. Whether you're a seasoned birder or just starting out, this event is perfect for the whole family to enjoy together. This bird walk is specifically for children, teens, and families. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about NJ's native birds and the wonders of migration. This walk will run rain or shine so please dress appropriately. We can't wait to see you there! COST: FREE FAQ: Is this a drop-off program? No. If the child is 16+ they may attend without supervision but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. What is the recommended donation for this program? Recommended donation is $10 per family. Individuals may donate whatever they wish. Will there be binoculars that I can borrow? Yes. NJA will provide binoculars and any other necessary gear but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Will this event be cancelled or postponed in the case of bad weather? Story Time at NJ Audubon Scherman Hoffman
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin us for a walk to our frog pond and a reading of "The Puddle Garden." Meet at the Nature Store at 11am for a short walk to the frog pond where David Pasake, NJA Volunteer and retired Wantage Elementary School teacher, will read "The Puddle Garden", written by Jared Rosenbaum, owner of Wild Ridge Plant nursery. Learn how Bear Cub invites friends to his new home by creating a Puddle Garden. A puddle garden is both beautiful and beneficial to other wildlife species. Children and parents alike will be inspired by this story to create homes for butterflies, hummingbirds, turtles, frogs and other wildlife, using native wildflowers and shrubs that provide shelter and sustenance. Hopefully our pond will have some frogs and eggs that everyone can see and hear. If the weather is uncooperative, the book will be read inside the Nature Store. FREE! Interested in becoming a member?
