Join Franklin Lakes Historical Society member and long-time Lorrimer volunteer, Colin Knight, for a tour of the Lorrimer Sanctuary house and property to learn a little more about the incredible life of Lucine Lorrimer and the beautiful old estate house that is now our education center. A great choice for your 3–6-year old's! *Free to apply! * Looking for a way to add nature learning to your little one's week? Join New Jersey Audubon Staff as we use local phenomena to explore the world around us. Children will spend their time outdoors on the Lorrimer Sanctuary property bouncing between hands-on, inquiry-based activities and free-play to help them develop their own understanding of the natural world. We will use Nature as a guide during this twice weekly program over a period of eight weeks. Lessons will include activities focused on natural history topics, a story and craft, age-appropriate risk taking, all with attention to mindfulness and fun. *NO COST TO APPLY! * Children must be a minimum of 3 to enroll and cannot be older than 6 years old to participate. All children in Muddy Hands Academy must be potty-trained and bathroom independent. The Muddy Hands Academy utilizes a Nature Preschool model with children spending as much time as possible outdoors. Children should be prepared for the weather including wet and muddy conditions. Class sizes are limited to 5 children per session. Classroom/Education Building - Cape May Point State Park NJ, United StatesPlease join us for the first Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event! Have you been wanting to learn how to transform your backyard habitat to benefit native species? This dual event will provide you with all the information you need to get started! First, learn from local expert, Pat Sutton, who will be presenting on the importance of gardening for wildlife. The presentation will be followed by a guided walk through Cape May Point visiting a few backyard habitats that have been certified by the National Wildlife Federation. Kristin Hock, New Jersey Audubon’s Habitat Outreach Coordinator, will be joining us on the walk to educate guests on how they can get their backyards certified. Nature Explorers – FALL 2022
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin Lorrimer's Teacher Naturalist and enjoy watching your naturalist go wild experiencing woodland adventures. Great for kids under 10! Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! Best for families with children under 10. COST:$8 per child for members, $10 per child for nonmembers. SCHEDULE: September 17 - Meet and Greet with Lorrimer's Resident Reptiles: Slither on by to meet our animal ambassadors, corn snake, Sunny and box turtle, Gordon. September 24 - Leaf Lessons: Join us for a fall leaf hike and gather materials for a Fall Leaf Wreath. October 1 - NO NATURE EXPLORERS October 8 - Colors of Nature: Join us as we extract the hidden colors within our found natural materials and create wonderful works of art. October 15 - Apple Cidering: A seasonal favorite! Join us as we experience the old-fashioned method of pressing apple cider. October 22 - Spooky Animals: Spiders, and Bats, and Black Cats! Oh MY! Join us for creepy-crawly crafts! October 29 - Tree Trunk or Treat: We'll be learning about trees and having a treat of a time at this Halloween special program, costumes encouraged!
