Spring Seed Starting 101
Cape May Point Science Center 101 Lehigh Ave, Cape May Point, NJ, United StatesJoin us for our Spring Seed Starting 101 program, sponsored by the Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project! Jen Sawyer from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension will be presenting on the dos and don’ts for preparing your spring garden, followed by a hand-on seed starting workshop. By the end of this free program, you will be armed with new gardening tricks and seedlings that are ready to go into your garden when the time is right! Pre-registration is required and be sure to wear something you wouldn’t mind possibly getting dirty. Native Plant Sale

We emphasize the use of New Jersey native plants, which benefit wildlife and have a strong aesthetic appeal for your landscape. Some non-natives (but non-invasive) perennials and annuals, which offer an added boost to butterfly gardens, will also be available. We have three NJ locations having native plants sales on May 6th They are Lorrimer Nature Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes, Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary in Bernardsville and Nature Center of Cape May in Cape May. NJ Audubon: Spring Wildflower Walk
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin Teacher Naturalist Dorothy Smullen for a stroll under the woodland canopy and open fields for spring wildflowers. Bring your favorite wildflower guidebook to check out the newly emerged blooms under the woodland canopy and open fields at Scherman Hoffman Sanctuary. Hand-outs will include vocabulary on flower structure and the “What’s in Bloom” brochures of the sanctuary. Registration required by 5/20 at 4:00 PM. One person per ticket. Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project: Winter Gardening 101

Have you been wanting to learn how to transform your backyard habitat into a haven for migrating and overwintering insects? This program at Cape May Point’s Triangle Park, a model backyard habitat, will provide you with an introduction into the gardening methods and variation species you can add to your home’s landscape for the colder months of the year! Join Jack McDonough, butterfly and invertebrate conservationist for the Endangered and Nongame Species Program under NJDEP Fish & Wildlife, who will be presenting on these important topics. The presentation will include a garden tour of Triangle Park, a discussion on insect migration, and the opportunity to take home seeds of various plants to add to your home garden!
