Bring a warm jacket and get ready to learn some tips and tricks for identifying all sorts of common trees! COST: $10 members, $12 nonmembers. NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Fully vaccinated people may attend outdoor programs without masks. If you are unvaccinated, please mask up. Spring ephemerals are the short-lived stars of early spring in NJ's woodlands, bringing color and life to an often cold and muddy season. Learn about the stories and medicinal properties of these unique little plants with find plenty of opportunities to view them up close! Dress appropriately for the weather! We will be outdoors the entire time. COST: $8 members / $10 nonmembers IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dress for the weather. This program is entirely outdoors. NJ Audubon: Wildflower ID Made Easy
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin Teacher Naturalist Dorothy Smullen to learn hands-on wildlfower identification. Tired of looking through an entire wildflower field guide looking for that wildflower? Dorothy will show you step by step how to use the identification keys in your field guides. Learn the basic flower vocabulary you need and then practice some hands-on flower identification. Then outdoors for a trail walk to see and practice identifying what’s in bloom. Bring your field guide, and a camera if you like. Registration required by 5/20 at 4:00 PM. One person per ticket. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. Limit 15. Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event
Classroom/Education Building - Cape May Point State Park NJ, United StatesPlease join us for the first Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event! Have you been wanting to learn how to transform your backyard habitat to benefit native species? This dual event will provide you with all the information you need to get started! First, learn from local expert, Pat Sutton, who will be presenting on the importance of gardening for wildlife. The presentation will be followed by a guided walk through Cape May Point visiting a few backyard habitats that have been certified by the National Wildlife Federation. Kristin Hock, New Jersey Audubon’s Habitat Outreach Coordinator, will be joining us on the walk to educate guests on how they can get their backyards certified. Winter Sowing Workshop
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesIf you've ever thought about sowing seeds for your garden over the winter but weren't sure where to start, this is the workshop for you! Did you know that many of our native plant seeds need to experience the cold to be able to germinate and bloom in the spring? Did you know you can start planting your garden in January? Join us to learn more about the process of starting your garden in winter and grow your native plant garden from seeds this season! We'll discuss our favorite native perennials and build our own winter sowing starter kit to take home out of recycled materials. Containers, native perennial seeds, and potting soil will be provided.
