Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event
Classroom/Education Building - Cape May Point State Park NJ, United StatesPlease join us for the first Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event! Have you been wanting to learn how to transform your backyard habitat to benefit native species? This dual event will provide you with all the information you need to get started! First, learn from local expert, Pat Sutton, who will be presenting on the importance of gardening for wildlife. The presentation will be followed by a guided walk through Cape May Point visiting a few backyard habitats that have been certified by the National Wildlife Federation. Kristin Hock, New Jersey Audubon’s Habitat Outreach Coordinator, will be joining us on the walk to educate guests on how they can get their backyards certified. Harbor Art Gallery Opening Reception – October 2022
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesTina Giaimo and Carla Schaffer - Featured Artists at the Harbor Gallery in Cape May! The Harbor Gallery is pleased to announce their featured local artists for the month of October. Tina Giaimo and Carla Schaffer will display their works with an opening reception to meet the artists on October 7th from 4-6pm. All artwork is for sale, with a portion of sales going to support the Nature Center of Cape May. Light refreshments will be served. The show will remain on exhibit at the Harbor Gallery for the entire month. Location: The Harbor Gallery is located at New Jersey Audubon’s Nature Center of Cape May at 1600 Delaware Ave, Cape May. The Nature Center will follow all CDC Covid safety guidelines.

Create your own masterpiece to take home with you or give as a holiday gift for friends and family. This one's for the books! Program Director, Emily Wilmoth will guide you through creating a unique, upcycled decoration for the fall season. We will hand cut old and forgotten paperback books into vintage style pumpkins. Decorate with a combination of paint, twine, cork stems and other embellishments. Bring your own book or use one of ours! Pre-registration is required. COST: $30 Members, $38 Non-member. Nighttime at the Nature Center

Get acquainted with the nocturnal creatures flying around the Cape May skies at night. We will set up a moth observation station, dissect owl pellets, and use gadgets to monitor bat movement. Creative Hands Club: Autumn Gnomes

Create your own masterpiece to take home with you or give as a holiday gift for friends and family. Local artist, Paige Cunningham will teach you the craft of needle felting to create an Autumn gnome. Using wool fibers known as roving, participants will needle the wool into a gnome shape and then watch it’s personality appear as they are embellished with quirky and fun details. Cape May Harbor Beach Sweep and Community Clean-up
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesJoin us at the Nature Center to help clean our ocean and harbor beaches here in Cape May.  This date coincides with Clean Ocean Action's annual Beach Sweeps. This is a great community service project for your civic organization or scout group.  Additionally, we’ll plant, mulch, deadhead, weed, and prune throughout the Center's grounds and along the harbor. We ask that you bring along your own tools (our supply is limited).  Preregistration is not required; however, if you plan to bring a large group, we would appreciate a call ahead of time. Create your own masterpiece to take home with you or give as a holiday gift for friends and family. Learn the basics of wrapping rocks with found and natural materials to make one-of-a-kind serenity stones. Rock wrapping is an art form rooted in Japanese tradition. Wrapped stones could be used in Japanese gardens to guide visitors along a prescribed route or the correct spiritual path. We'll provide the rocks and leather or hemp cord plus shells and twigs with some tools to help in the process. Bring any additional small items such as crystal or charms to make it more personal. Create, carve and block print your own design on a set of 4 cloth napkins with local artist, Janet Payne. Bring your own design ideas to class or be inspired by the natural grounds of the Nature Center. Simple designs work best, newcomers are always welcome. All materials provided. Using cloth napkins at home is an eco-friendly alternative to paper. A great gift idea too!  Pre-registration is required. COST: $30 Members, $38 Non-member. Join West Cape May artist Carla Schaeffer in upcycling denim jeans into fun and lightweight bohemian denim earrings. We will cut up jeans and use a metal grommet tool to create earrings that we can either keep plain or decorate and embellish with lace, ribbon, and crafting gems. Pre-registration is required.
