Help pull a seine net through the Cape May Harbor to see first-hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Walk the Cove with a naturalist to discover the gifts the sea leaves behind at the water's edge. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats — the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll search the shallows, comb the shoreline for treasures, and walk along the dunes in search of wildlife. Led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher/Naturalist, former president of the New Jersey Mycological Association Join Dorothy for a “talk and walk” to discover the fascinating world of fungi. Fungi have been used for thousands of years by humans, not only as food but as medicine, fire-starters, insect repellants, decoration, for religious ceremonies and more. Fungi are very important to forests. Not only are they decomposers and recyclers in the forest ecosystem, but they also connect to tree roots – a mutualistic symbiosis that allows trees to communicate with each other. After a talk and display about fungi fun facts, we will walk the trails to look for the diverse groups of mushrooms and fungi. Hand-outs available. One person per ticket.
