These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. For kids 4-8 years old. Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! Best for families with children 4-8 years old. NJ Audubon River Ramble
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesBring the family and explore a stream with nets and buckets. Catch crayfish, water striders, water pennies, and more! The Passaic River gently flows through our sanctuary, and is shallow and perfect for wading in. Please wear sturdy closed-toe water shoes. Full Moon Hike
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesExperience the beauty of a full moonlit night at Lorrimer, learn your owl calls, and search for nocturnal creatures during this fun walk! Ever wonder what animals are out and about at night? Under the bright light of a full moon, come experience the wonder of a spring night in nature! We will use flashlights to gently illuminate the tiny insects that live in the leaf litter, practice our owl calls (and see if the owls call back!), and use our senses to guide us during this one-hour program. NJ Audubon: Edible Wild Foods

This will be a hybrid program offered as an in-person and a zoom meeting. Please select either the in-person ticket or the virtual ticket when you register. In-person attendees (limited to 15) will also see display items, receive handouts and go on a short walk on the trails at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary. Recommended for adults. Harbor Safari
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesHelp pull a seine net through the Cape May Harbor to see first-hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Meet 5-10 minutes prior to your program time at the picnic tables in front of the Trucksess Welcome Center at 1600 Delaware Avenue. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Beachcombing the Cove
Sunset Pavilion 62 Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesWalk the Cove with a naturalist to discover the gifts the sea leaves behind at the water's edge. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats — the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll search the shallows, comb the shoreline for treasures, and walk along the dunes in search of wildlife. Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Children may not participate without an adult.
