NJ Audubon: Morning Walk at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesEnjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. There will be no walk 4/4, 5/2. 5/9, and 5/23. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? NJ Audubon: Guided Forest Bathing

It is a practice that supports health and wellness through guided immersion in nature. Forest bathing is a slow walk where people are guided through a sequence of invitations to slow down, be present with our senses, and experience the natural environment. Research studies have shown the practice of forest bathing has many benefits. The impact on our health is substantial: lowering blood pressure, boosting immune function, improving quality of sleep, and decreasing stress & anxiety. The practice of forest bathing creates a path to reconnect and deepen the relationship to nature, to others, to our communities, and to ourselves. The health of nature and the health of people are woven together. Joy is a certified Forest Bathing Guide through the Shinrin Yoku Association. Beachcombing the Cove

Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats - the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll scour the shallows, comb the shoreline, and walk along the dunes in search of hidden treasures & signs of wildlife. Nighttime on the Beach

Get your flashlights out and meet a Nature Center Naturalist on the beach for an hour of ghost crab chasing! Learn about ghost crab habitat, how they move, and what they eat. From common garden weeds to well-known ornamental plants to native forest plants, this walk features something for everyone! Head out on a guided tour through our trails, where you'll encounter a variety of fascinating poisonous plants that have intrigued humans for thousands of years. Our knowledgeable staff will share anecdotes and cautionary tales about these cool (and occasionally sinister!) plants. Discover the secrets behind well-known plants like Foxglove, Bleeding Heart, and Nightshade as well as their less well-known peers! Learn about their toxic properties, historical uses, the myths and legends surrounding them, and their effects on local wildlife. This event is perfect for nature enthusiasts of all ages!
