NJ Audubon: Winter Woodpecker Wander at Hawk Rise
Hawk Rise Sanctuary 1811 Lower Rd, Linden, NJ, United StatesLed by Angus Macaulay, NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist Hawk Rise is home to several woodpecker species and winter is a prime time to spot them. Join us for a walk along the trails as we discuss these amazing birds and observe them in their in their natural habitat. Loaner binoculars will be available. This program is appropriate for individuals of all ages. Come dressed for the weather. Hot beverages will be served afterwards. COST: FREE Interested in becoming a member? New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Sue Predl, Nature Store Assistant Celebrate the days getting longer and join Sue for a guided two-mile nature hike to enjoy the trees, birds, and plant life at Scherman Hoffman Nature Sanctuary on the shortest day of the year. The trails we hike will vary, but we can guarantee beautiful views of our sanctuary. Walking time is flexible but will be approximately 2 hours. Please dress for the winter weather and wear sturdy shoes; be prepared to walk on uneven ground and up hills. The hike will go rain or shine. We will meet at the Scherman Hoffman Nature Store at 2:00 PM. Registration required by 12:00 PM the day of the hike. COST: free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Learn to identify trees in winter without the help of leaves! Join Dorothy to study trees in winter without the help of leaves. Registrants will be studying twigs and their differences in order to identify the unknown tree. After an indoor session, we will walk the trails to see bark patterns. One person per ticket.
