Kittatinny Point Visitor Center 1 Interstate 80, Columbia, NJ, United StatesBreeding vireos, thrushes, flycatchers, and warblers along the scenic upper Delaware River. Great roadside birding along the scenic upper Delaware River, with a wide variety of breeding songbirds, including Black-billed Cuckoo, Alder Flycatcher, Louisiana Waterthrush, Worm-eating, Hooded, & Cerulean Warblers. Led by Scott Barnes and Linda Mack. Location: Meet at Kittatinny Point Visitor Center, Delaware Water Gap Nat’l Recreation Area. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: FREE NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES: All NJ counties are considered medium to low COVID-19 community levels. New Jersey Audubon highly recommends that anyone who is not fully vaccinated, wants additional protection, or comes from a higher community level area should consider wearing a mask and social distancing, especially indoors. NJ Young Birders Club-Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR
Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge Admin Building And Visitor Contact Station 800 Great Creek Road, Galloway, NJ, United StatesSummer birding at one of the state's best hotspots. Expect shorebirds, wading birds, terns, marsh birds, and raptors. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Led by Scott Barnes and Linda Mack. Location: 800 Great Creek Road, Oceanville, Forsythe NWR at main lot by headquarters. Island Beach State Park-NJ Young Birders Club
Island Beach State Park - Park Entrance Median Parking Lot Central Ave, Seaside Park, NJ, United StatesFall migration at this beautiful park; searching for a wide range of species including herons, terns, thrushes, flycatchers, sparrows and warblers. Be prepared for walking on flat terrain with some sandy and muddy spots likely. Bring binoculars, lunch, and dress for the weather. Biting insects like mosquitoes may be present, so long pants are advised. Trip is free but pre-registration is required. Led by Scott Barnes and Linda Mack. Location: Meet in the median parking lot just OUTSIDE the entrance to Island Beach State Park at the southern end of Rt 35. NJ Young Birders Club-Sandy Hook
Sandy Hook - Lot B Hartshorne Drive, Sandy Hook, NJ, United StatesLate fall birding at "the hook" focusing on waterfowl and seabirds, as well as raptors and field birds. Waterfowl should be around in good numbers, and we’ll hope for some seabird migration along the ocean where we could find numerous scoters, loons, gannets, and gulls. Mid-November can be a good time for oddities as well, and we’ll explore the hook’s thickets and woods for late-fall land birds. Trip is open to youth ages 11-17 who are interested in birds plus parents/guardian. Trip is free but pre-registration is required. Led by Scott Barnes and Carole Hughes.
