NJ Audubon Digital Photography Workshop 4: Editing Tools
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesInstructor: Jack Moskowitz This in-person workshop will focus on integrating Lightroom into a Photoshop workflow. More and more photographers are using Lightroom to organize and process their images. However, Photoshop allows the photographer to easily accomplish image editing that would be difficult in Lightroom. In this workshop students will learn how to integrate Lightroom/Bridge/Adobe Camera RAW/Photoshop into a combined workflow. Winter Sowing Workshop
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesIf you've ever thought about sowing seeds for your garden over the winter but weren't sure where to start, this is the workshop for you! Did you know that many of our native plant seeds need to experience the cold to be able to germinate and bloom in the spring? Did you know you can start planting your garden in January? Join us to learn more about the process of starting your garden in winter and grow your native plant garden from seeds this season! We'll discuss our favorite native perennials and build our own winter sowing starter kit to take home out of recycled materials. Containers, native perennial seeds, and potting soil will be provided. The Best of Winter Birding – Eagles, Owls, Ducks and More!
Cape May Bird Observatory - Center for Research and Education 600 North Delsea Drive, Middle Township, NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO Director Brett Ewald for a two-day winter birding workshop exploring all Cape May County has to offer! Southern NJ provides incredible winter birding! With over ten species of diurnal raptors (hawks and owls) and twenty-five species of waterfowl possible, there is so much to see and appreciate, set in some of the most beautiful and remote landscapes on the Eastern Seaboard. While we’ll focus on these groups of birds, we’ll also take time to enjoy shorebirds, gulls, gannets, sparrows are more on this in-the-field workshop. Past years have featured Rough-legged Hawks, Short-eared Owls, and eiders. We don’t pre-set an itinerary, but will explore parts of Cape May County, Forsythe NWR (Atlantic County), and the Delaware Bayshore northward into Cumberland County, depending on weather conditions, tide times and sightings reports. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: $150 members, $200 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We bird in all weather. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: Please arrive at the appointed time with a full tank of gas, as transportation to field sites is by private vehicles. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. You will make your own low-cost mini greenhouse from recycled materials and plant your choice of seeds to take home. Make a pollinator home for native bees to take home. All materials provided. Paint your own gourd birdhouse for the cavity nesting birds returning from their winter homes this spring. Bonnie, retired art teacher with 40 years' experience, will give a demonstration on painting technique, and help you along with your painting. All materials provided. Information on growing your own gourds will be provided. Hang your decorative gourd birdhouse in your backyard and enjoy watching the new resident raise their young! One person per ticket. New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesWe are offering the opportunity to join Scherman Hoffman's environmental education team as Program Facilitator. Our training program meets Tuesday mornings, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, from March 14 to May 9. (No class April 11.) Do you enjoy the outdoors? Would you like to be involved in environmental education? We are offering the opportunity to support Scherman Hoffman's environmental education team. As a Program Facilitator, you would teach environmental education programs in an outdoor setting to school and scout groups, afterschool programs, children's birthday parties, summer camp, and outreach programs for adults and children. Share your enthusiasm and knowledge of the natural world with others and have the reward of watching children learn about and connect with the natural world all around them. Once you satisfactorily complete the program, you will join the Scherman Hoffman team of paid Program Facilitators to teach weekday, weekend, and evening programs, and summer camp. As part of your training, you will be required to volunteer as a camp assistant for one week of 2023 summer nature camp prior to teaching camp. NJ Audubon Digital Photography Workshop 6: Creative Photography
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Instructor – Jacki Dickert (https://www.lightdance.org/) In this lecture, Jacki Dickert will delve into "the art of seeing," incorporating elements of design into images, awakening the imagination, and using the camera to its fullest to create special effects. In addition, she will demonstrate some digital editing effects and techniques that will allow for the creation of unique works of art. You will leave feeling encouraged about making beautiful images without having to travel to exotic locations.  New Jersey photographer and educator Jacki Dickert is passionate about sharing the beauty of the natural world. Students will be introduced to critical variables to control in bird/wildlife photography, such as exposure and shutter speed. Phil will cover typical camera settings useful for bird/wildlife photography. In addition, the program will include photo editing techniques used to process wildlife images using Adobe Camera RAW, Photoshop and NIK Plug Ins. Eastern Bluebirds are great insect eaters. In this workshop you will assemble a nestbox from a kit, walk outdoors to look in a few nestboxes to look for and identify last year’s nests, and learn how to maintain your nestbox.
