Atkinson began her career as a professional illustrator, creating concept-driven imagery for book covers and editorial publications, where she became known for translating complex ideas into compelling visual narratives. She later transitioned to fine art, working primarily in oil, balancing subtle storytelling with expressive, painterly techniques. Her work has been recognized by Communication Arts, the Society of Illustrators, the Hispanic Creative Awards, and Print Design Annual. In 2026, she was selected for juried exhibitions including Visions: AAPL at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, the James Library & Center for the Arts 7th Annual Spring Show, and the Jackson's Art Prize 2026 Extended Long List. New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin us at Scherman Hoffman for spring break fun! Each themed day will be filled with super fun Teacher/Naturalist led activities and adventures in the great outdoors. Sign up for one or more days. Be sure to pack a snack and lunch. For youth ages 6 to 10 years. COST: $100.00 per day. SCHEDULE: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day Monday, March 30– Camp Favorites - Enjoy summer campers' favorite activities, outdoor exploration, art project, and nature game. Tuesday, March 31 – Enchanted Woodlands - Make a fairy house or a gnome home for the fairies and gnomes in our Enchanted Forest. Wednesday, April 1 – Home Sweet Home - Make and take home some "home sweet homes" for the animals. Wednesday, April 8 - Camp Favorites - Enjoy summer campers' favorite activities, outdoor exploration, art project, and nature game. Thursday, April 9 – Enchanted Woodlands - Make a fairy house or a gnome home for the fairies and gnomes in our Enchanted Forest. Junior Naturalists Club (Afterschool Spring Session)

Designed to be a continuation from our younger student afterschool program, the Junior Naturalists Club is meant for kids ages 8-12. During this hour-long program, we will get hands-on discovering nature through outdoor exploration, arts and crafts, science experiments, and more. This is a drop-off program. Homeschoolers welcome! Higbee Beach Birding
Higbee Beach WMA NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area! Famous for migration, we'll search for Blue Grosbeaks, Brown Thrashers, Yellow-breasted Chats, Yellow Warblers and White-eyed Vireos. All arrive in April to breed here. Many spring warblers and other songbirds migrate through. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $8 members, $12 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Spring Break Birding Bootcamp

Do you have what it takes to be a birder? We will teach you all the foundational skills of birding- from using binoculars and spotting scopes to bird ID and more. Spend time exploring Cape May’s best birding hubs, plus enjoy classic summer camp-inspired games and activities throughout the sessions! Join us for one day or sign up for all three! SCHEDULE: April 6th: Hang out at the nature center for a morning jam-packed with summer-camp favorite activities. Learn the basics of using binoculars, play camp games, and search for shorebirds on the Cape May Harbor! April 8th: Take a field trip and explore some of Cape May’s best Spring Migration spots! Visit the Cape May Point State Park and the Cape May Springwatch to start adding new species to your “life list”. April 10th: Become a community scientist! Learn all about how you can help birds by studying them. Record the birds you spot so scientists can use your data for conservation! Raritan Bay Waterfront Park
Raritan Bay Waterfront Park 201 John T O'Leary Boulevard, South Amboy, NJ, United StatesEarly spring birding for loons, grebes, gulls, & migrants. If winds are right, we could have a modest hawk flight. Raritan Bay Waterfront Park has long been known as a concentration point for Bonaparte's Gulls in spring. If we're lucky a Little Gull or Black-headed Gull could be among them. The bay usually hosts a variety of waterbirds in early spring and some landbird migrants could be around. Once you enter the park, go north and park at the end of the lot close to the bay. Be prepared for easy walking for 3 hours. Restrooms on site. Led by Scott Barnes and Hank Burk. Intro to Birding
FeaturedCape May Point State Park Hawkwatch Platform NJ, United StatesAre you just getting into birding and want to learn the basics? Join CMBO’s Program Coordinator, Adehl Schwaderer and CMBO Naturalists for an afternoon of deep diving into all things birding. We will review optics, identification tips, tricks for binoculars usage, and answer any questions you may have. We’ll visit several local hotspots to take in the early spring migrants while focusing on improving your bird identification out in the field. Geared towards beginners and those wishing to improve their knowledge and appreciation of birds and birding, helping you take it to the next level! We don’t pre-set an itinerary but will visit those parts of Cape May that regularly hold good numbers of birds at this time of year. Final location decisions will be made by the leader, based on local knowledge and conditions at the time. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. A portion of the afternoon will involve an indoor session, with discussions on birdwatching and bird feeding gear/paraphernalia. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. There will be no walk 4/4, 5/2. 5/9, and 5/23. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member?
