Nature Explorers – FALL 2022

Great for kids under 10! Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! Best for families with children under 10. COST:$8 per child for members, $10 per child for nonmembers. October 1 - NO NATURE EXPLORERS October 8 - Colors of Nature: Join us as we extract the hidden colors within our found natural materials and create wonderful works of art. October 15 - Apple Cidering: A seasonal favorite! Join us as we experience the old-fashioned method of pressing apple cider. October 22 - Spooky Animals: Spiders, and Bats, and Black Cats! Oh MY! Join us for creepy-crawly crafts! October 29 - Tree Trunk or Treat: We'll be learning about trees and having a treat of a time at this Halloween special program, costumes encouraged! November 5 - Magnificent Mammals: Join us for a mammal scavenger hunt on our trails to find who lives at Lorrimer. November 12 - Bird-Friendly Crafts: Create a tasty treat for your backyard feathered friends ! Apple Cidering
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesLearn how to make apple cider using an old-fashioned cider press and make your own apple stamps at this hour-long family program! Join Lorrimer Sanctuary staff for a fun family program all about apple cider! We'll learn about apple trees and where apples come from, use an old-fashioned cider press to turn our apples into juice (and taste test some delicious and fresh local cider), and make an apple stamp craft too! Children must be accompanied by an adult, this is not a drop-off program. COST: $8 members / $10 nonmembers IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dress appropriately for the weather. Sandy Hook Birding
Sandy Hook - Lot B Hartshorne Drive, Sandy Hook, NJ, United StatesMid-October can be excellent for migratory songbirds and other species at this coastal hotspot. Fall birding at the hook: we may encounter anything from shorebirds and terns to flycatchers, sparrows, and warblers. A wide variety of habitats ensure good bird diversity at one of the state’s best spots. Bring lunch and be prepared for walking over flat and sandy terrain. Led by Linda Mack, Patrick Belardo, and Chris Daly. Location: Meet at Parking Lot B, about halfway down the lot by the restrooms. Back Bay Birding by Boat on the Osprey
