Cape May Point State Park Hawkwatch Platform NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO naturalists for 2 hours of birding around beautiful Cape May Point! Crossbills, siskins, redpolls – oh, my! Winter can be such a special time to bird Cape May Point. Each week we’ll scour the Park or wander the streets to see what avian visitors are calling Cape May Point their winter home. The winter finch prediction sounds promising, the ponds are full of ducks, and loons and scoters are on the move. Our path may take us through the quiet streets of Cape May Point, visiting local feeders. Or maybe we’ll travel along the dunes to check the morning flight line. Lily Lake and the Northwood Center often hold wintering songbirds and, of course, the State Park is always good. NJ Audubon: Digital Photography Workshop VI: Landscape Photography

Subjects covered include equipment, planning, composition, and capture. In addition, the program will cover photo editing techniques used to process landscape images using Adobe Camera RAW, Photoshop, and NIK Plug Ins. Winter Birding in Cape May
Avalon - 8th Street Parking Lot Avalon, NJ, United StatesJoin Program Coordinator Adehl Schwaderer and CMBO naturalists on a search for wintering waterfowl from Avalon to Cape May! February is a wonderful time of year to seek out various species of waterfowl, as lingering winterers are joined by northbound migrants. We will travel through coastal and inland areas of Cape May County to find and enjoy a wide range of species, including scoters, mergansers, eiders, and many other ducks, plus a great array of shorebirds, cormorants, grebes. At each stop, we will take time to study various identification clues: plumage, size & shape, flight characteristics, and behavior to help improve your bird identification skills. This birding break has something to offer birders of all skill and experience levels. We do not set a firm daily schedule in advance, leaving us flexible to maximize birding opportunities, taking advantage of weather conditions, tides, and recent bird sightings. NJ Audubon: Count the Birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count

Join Dorothy Smullen, Teacher Naturalist, to count the birds at the bird feeding station in front of the Welcome Center/Nature Store and report our results. Learn how to count birds in your own backyard for this world-wide citizen science program established in 1998 by National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. For ages 15 years and older. Please arrive 10 minutes early and bring a yoga mat if you have one (some will be provided.) There will be no classes 12/28/24, 1/18/25, 2/15/25. Ticket sales end at 4:30 PM on the Friday before each class. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. The in-person class has a limit of 10 people. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. Birding on the Barrier Islands
Stone Harbor Point - 2nd Ave Parking Lot NJ, United StatesJoin Chris Marks and CMBO Naturalists, as we explore some of the iconic barrier islands in Cape May County! These long and narrow land strips are teeming with a variety of birds. For this trip, we’ll spend the majority of our time on Seven Mile Island, home to the boroughs of Stone Harbor and Avalon as well as amazing ocean views, dunes, and marshes. As we walk the beach at Stone Harbor Point, we’ll look for wintering shorebirds, gulls, and sparrows. The Avalon jetty is a great spot to try for winter goodies such as Great Cormorant and Purple Sandpiper as well as migrating scoters, loons, and other waterfowl. We may also try for salty sparrows such as Nelson’s and Saltmarsh Sparrow on Nummy Island. Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge Admin Building And Visitor Contact Station 800 Great Creek Road, Galloway, NJ, United StatesAn afternoon and evening birding at one of the state's best birding spots. The varied habitats of Forsythe NWR assures a good variety of species from ducks to raptors and sparrows. This a good time of year for eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey.
