Spring Birding at Garrett Family Preserve – June 8, 2024

Leaders: Kathy Horn, Roger Horn, Bernie Hodgdon, Alan Crawford, Barry Hershfeld.

Temp: 68°F

Winds: W 13 mph

Weather Conditions: sunny

The breeding Yellow-breasted Chats were very evident this morning at Garrett, with their odd calls audible all over the property. We had scope views of three of them and one did a brief flight display as it crossed the field. Orchard Orioles, an obvious breeder there in recent years, have been quite scarce this year but this week we did manage to spot two of them despite their silence. Prairie Warblers, Field Sparrows and Common Yellowthroats are still singing, and the marsh held a large mixed flock of White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, and Snowy Egrets.
