The Spectacled Screen Thrashers are a team made up of CMBO staff, volunteers and some former New Jersey Audubon staff. Our team is spread out across east coast states, with Kim Peters, former NJ Audubon Director of Research, birding with teammates in Massachusetts, a bunch of us all over southern New Jersey, and extended family in Maryland. The staff/volunteer portion of the team begins in Belleplain in the morning for an intense two hours of birding, followed by a lengthy brunch break, a certain amount of napping, and then heading down to set up the Finish Line festivities. Meanwhile, team members are scouring Forsythe and select locations to build the list. It’s all about life balance.
Our name is derived from the years during which we were migrating from paper forms to everything, everywhere, all the time online, and the concurrent cussing, screaming, kicking, scratching and otherwise wishing there was a sledgehammer handy to resolve our computer issues. Although the screen thrashing has largely subsided, we’re increasingly spectacled with ever more powerful lenses.
