Avalon Seawatch Update – October 13th

Stormy Avalon

The week of October 7th through the 13th was dominated by a nor’easter, with four days of strong generally northeastern winds with some flooding around Avalon.  Despite this seemingly good weather for seawatching, not much of any flight was observed, continuing the trend of our slow season.  However, Tom did manage to start the week off on Monday and Tuesday with another Black-legged Kittiwake and 35 & 54 Parasitic Jaegers respectively, as well as an excellent flight of 972 Forster’s Terns.  Tom also had 4 Cory’s Shearwaters this week, all northbound.

Other than a few thousand more Double-crested Cormorants, we are still lacking our Top 5 birds!  When will they arrive?  Stay tuned to find out!
