Greenwood Gardens Birdwalk

Greenwood Gardens 274 Old Short Hills Rd, Short Hills

Led by Dave Hall, NJ Audubon Associate Naturalists. Immerse yourself in nature as you venture into the garden with New Jersey Audubon Naturalist, Dave Hall. This avian expert will talk about the varied species of birds that visit Greenwood’s peaceful woodlands and the surrounding 2,100 acres of South Mountain Reservation’s protected parkland. NJ Audubon Hawk Watches at Scherman Hoffman Observation Deck

New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville

Join our Naturalist on the observation deck for a bird’s eye view of fall migration. We'll be looking for migrating raptors and any passerines passing through. Marvel at the spectacular view of Broad-winged Hawk kettles as they fly over the sanctuary, Bald Eagles, and other raptors. Hawk Watches are scheduled for Thursdays, 10/ 5, 10/12, 10/19, and 10/26 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  Loaner binoculars will be available. Note: a hawk watch day will be cancelled if there is rain, snow, or weather warnings. Registration and fee are per date. You must pre-register for each date you wish to attend. Ticket sales ends at 4:00 PM on the day before each hawk watch. One person per ticket. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Join Lorrimer Sanctuary for a Nature Tech Walk where we will be investigating our natural world using phone apps like iNaturalist, Seek, and Merlin to identify the birds, plants, and animals around us! Technology isn't so bad when you can use it to better your identification skills, sharpen your nature photography, keep track of your life list, or tune your ear to special bird call. We will be focusing on iNaturalist, Seek and Merlin for this program. This walk is intended for adults or families. Please bring either an Apple or Android device that can support application downloads.
