E-Z Birding at the Cape May Point State Park
Cape May Point State Park Hawkwatch Platform NJJoin CMBO naturalists for 2 hours of birding around the Cape May Point State Park! E-Z Birding is for beginning birders and for those want to learn more about the birds and how to find them. Cape May Point State Park is a great place to bird with a variety of habitats - woods, fields, ponds, dunes, and beach! PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $8 members, $12 nonmembers. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s CMBO programs are virtually never cancelled. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Fall Birding at Hawk Rise Sanctuary
Hawk Rise Sanctuary 1811 Lower Rd, LindenJoin NJ Audubon Program Director Scott Barnes and associate naturalists for a leisurely walk at the sanctuary. We’ll look for woodpeckers, thrushes and warblers in the woods and wetland birds like herons, egrets, and Ospreys along the Rahway River. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Tiny Tots – Fall Series
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin LakesToddlers can be naturalists too! Perfect for littles 18 months to 3 years old, join us for story time and nature activities! We're excited to welcome a new generation of budding naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for this "grown-up-and-me" style program. We will read books, explore outside, and learn about nature in age-appropriate ways for littles! This is NOT a drop-off program; children must be accompanied by an adult. There is no cost for accompanying adult. Programs have indoor and outdoor components, please be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. SCHEDULE: October 12: Scavenger hunt October 19: Fall colors. October 26: Bats November 2: Fall nature garland. November 9: Turtle Time November 16: Bird-friendly ornaments COST: $5 per child for members, $6 per child for nonmembers. NJ Audubon Hawk Watches at Scherman Hoffman Observation Deck
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, BernardsvilleJoin our Naturalist on the observation deck for a bird’s eye view of fall migration. We'll be looking for migrating raptors and any passerines passing through. Marvel at the spectacular view of Broad-winged Hawk kettles as they fly over the sanctuary, Bald Eagles, and other raptors. Hawk Watches are scheduled for Thursdays, 10/ 5, 10/12, 10/19, and 10/26 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Loaner binoculars will be available. Note: a hawk watch day will be cancelled if there is rain, snow, or weather warnings. Registration and fee are per date. You must pre-register for each date you wish to attend. Intro to Nature Tech
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin LakesJoin Lorrimer Sanctuary for a Nature Tech Walk where we will be investigating our natural world using phone apps like iNaturalist, Seek, and Merlin to identify the birds, plants, and animals around us! Technology isn't so bad when you can use it to better your identification skills, sharpen your nature photography, keep track of your life list, or tune your ear to special bird call. We will be focusing on iNaturalist, Seek and Merlin for this program. This walk is intended for adults or families. Please bring either an Apple or Android device that can support application downloads.
