Fishing Basics
Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve 1 Nature Preserve Way, Franklin Lakes NJ, NJ, United StatesJoin Lorrimer Sanctuary staff at the Franklin Lakes Preserve for a Fishing Basics, a beginner’s fishing program on Tuesday August 22nd. We'll cover the basics like: types of reels and rods, how to tie on a hook, casting techniques, types of baits and lures, AND you'll get the chance to try your luck at fishing! Rods and tackle will be available to share, but you are welcome to bring your own. Open to learners of all ages, under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, not a drop off program. COST: $10 per participant CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Tiny Tots – Summer Series
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesToddlers can be naturalists too! Perfect for littles 18 months to 3 years old, join us for story time and nature activities! Tiny Tots is BACK! We're excited to welcome a new generation of budding naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for this "grown-up-and-me" style program. We will read books, explore outside, and learn about nature in age-appropriate ways for littles! SCHEDULE: TBD COST: $5 per child for members, $6 per child for nonmembers. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. NJ Audubon: Explore Hawk Rise with a StoryWalk TM
Hawk Rise Sanctuary 1811 Lower Rd, Linden, NJ, United StatesLed by Angus Macaulay, NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist Bring a book to life by reading in a unique environment! Take a StoryWalk TM with us through Hawk Rise Sanctuary and discover this wonderful park in a whole new way. While reading the story we will make discovery stops and have some hands-on fun. This program is appropriate for children ages 2 to 6. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The StoryWalk TM concept was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in cooperation with the Kellogg Hubbard Library and the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition. Learn the art of fishing at Fishing Basics: get hands-on experience, expert tips, and have a reel-y great time! Join us for a fun-filled day of fishing basics! Whether you're a beginner or just want to brush up on your skills, this in-person event is perfect for you. Our experienced instructors will cover everything from casting techniques to knot tying. You'll also learn about bait selection and fish identification. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow fishing enthusiasts and enjoy the great outdoors. So, grab your friends and family and get ready for a day of reeling in some unforgettable memories! AND you'll get the chance to try your luck at fishing! Rods and tackle will be available to share, but you are welcome to bring your own. This program is geared for children 5th grade + and adults. LOCATIONS: October 1st: Lake Henry at Continental Soldiers Park, Mahwah October 8th: Ramapo Valley County Reservation, Mahwah COST: $15 members, $18 non-members WEATHER NOTICE: This program takes place entirely outdoors and will take place in light rain. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. Nature Explorers – FALL 2023
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin Lorrimer's Teacher Naturalist and enjoy watching your naturalist go wild experiencing woodland adventures. Great for kids 4-10! Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts.  It is educational and fun! Best for families with children 4-10. COST: $8 per child for members, $10 per child for nonmembers. NJ Audubon: Autumn Outing at Hawk Rise Sanctuary
