Winter Break at Lorrimer Sanctuary
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin us at the Lorrimer Sanctuary for an epic Winter Break filled with thrilling activities and endless fun! Get ready for a week filled with fun, adventure, and learning in the great outdoors! Fun activities include maple sugaring, nature art, shelter building and more! Kindergarten through 6th grade! Please be sure to pack a lunch! This program takes place mostly outdoors and participants must dress appropriately for all weather conditions. COST: Kindergarten - 3rd Grade $65 4th - 6th Grade $65 CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. Maple Syrup Boil
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin us for a sweet and sticky adventure at the Lorrimer Sanctuary! Get ready to indulge in the deliciousness of freshly made maple syrup. Immerse yourself in the process of turning sap into liquid gold as you watch our expert team boil it down to perfection. Learn about the history and techniques of maple syrup production while enjoying the winter atmosphere of the sanctuary. This is an in-person event that you won't want to miss. Come and experience the magic of maple syrup with us! This program is intended for families and adults, it is not a drop-off children's program. This activity includes a naturalist-led walk through the nature sanctuary and is a drop-in program, the boil will be taking place throughout the 3-hour window. New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin us in the Nature Store for Story Time with David Pasake, NJA Volunteer and retired Wantage Elementary School teacher, for a reading of "She's Wearing a Dead Bird on her Head!" by Kathryn Lasky. This book is a fictional account of Harriet Hemenway and her cousin Minna Hall and how the latest Boston fashion led the two women to form the Audubon Society. Appropriate for ages 5-9. FREE! Creative Hands Club: Upcycled Whimsical Birds
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesJoin West Cape May artist Carla Schaeffer for a fun filled evening of recycling and reusing! We'll make colorful and whimsical birds in flight by cutting apart aluminum cans, making a template, and marking and cutting the components of the bird before piecing them together. Learn new skills for upcycling aluminum cans, and take home one (or more) one of a kind bird(s)! Instructor will have beer cans on hand, but if you have a preference for soda or any special can, bring them with you to class (you will need 4 cans per bird). Pre-registration is required. Creative Hands Club: Batik Trees
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesJoin Susan Tarrant to create a fun fiber art project! The batik tree is approximately 10” tall. Batik fabric is printed on both sides and does not fray. Many color choices will be available. No special skills required-cutting, twirling and gluing. Lorrimer Community Volunteer Day
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesWelcome to the Lorrimer Community Volunteer Day! Help us clean up and beautify Lorrimer Sanctuary for spring! We will run a deer drive, weed our native garden, and do light trail clean-up. Join us on Wed, Apr 03, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Lorrimer Sanctuary for a day of giving back to our community. This event is a great opportunity to meet new people, enjoy nature, and make a positive impact on the environment. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or new to community service, there's a place for everyone at the Lorrimer's Community Volunteer Day. Tasks may include light trail maintenance, walking through the woods for a deer drive, or weeding and garden clean-up in preparation for spring. Please wear comfortable clothes, shoes that can get muddy, and bring a water bottle. Light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring food for break times while we get to know the other members of our volunteer crew! Come be a part of something bigger than yourself and help make our community a better place. We can't wait to see you there! COST: FREE FAQ: Do I need to stay for all 3 hours? No!
