An enchanting introduction to wild herbal teas! Step into the woods as a forager, not just a hiker. In this hands-on program guests will explore the forest floor and trail edges and learn to spot and safely identify wild plants that have been brewed into teas for generations — things like pine needles, wild mint, clover, etc., depending on the season and location. We'll then head back into the education center for some taste-testing. What to expect: A guided walk to search for edible, tea-worthy plants Simple, memorable rules for foraging safely (only pick what you can positively identify; leave enough for the forest and other foragers) A tasting session — sipping the tea you helped find, with time to talk about flavor, smell, and which plants tasted best Take-home tips and recipes for continuing to forage safely and brew your own teas. COST: $30 Members, $30 Non-members IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This program is fitting for children 6+ with an adult and for adults. Small snacks will be shared, but guests are welcome to bring their favorite snack to pair with their teas. Lorrimer Sanctuary is not a nut-free facility and cross contamination is possible at this event. This program will take place both indoors and outdoors, please dress for the weather! Coffee and Birds Start your morning off right at Lorrimer Sanctuary with a cup of coffee and a front row seat to our new birdwatching facilities! You will be able to relax inside as well as outside on our brand-new observation deck. Bonus points if you bring your own mug! Please register so we know how much to brew! Branch out and brew something wild! Long before soda came from a bottle, it came from the forest. In this workshop, participants discover how sweet birch bark and twigs get transformed into a fizzy, fragrant drink, from foraging to fermentation. This program is designed for adults and children 12+ (with a chaperone). Join us for a fun-filled day of fishing basics! Whether you're a beginner or just want to brush up on your skills, this in-person event is perfect for you. Our experienced instructors will cover everything from casting techniques to knot tying. You'll also learn about bait selection and fish identification. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow fishing enthusiasts and enjoy the great outdoors. So, grab your friends and family and get ready for a day of reeling in some unforgettable memories! In partnership with Franklin Lakes Healthy Living. FOR CHILDREN 4 to 7 YEARS OLD Join us after school for this 1-hour Wednesday afternoon program! Each day will feature a nature topic, walk, craft, activity, and/or story! We welcome the next generation of naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for our after-school nature club! Designed to be a continuation from our Tiny Tots program, we will read books, explore outside, make nature-themed crafts, and learn about the environment in age-appropriate ways. Join us at Lorrimer Sanctuary once a month for nature-based art projects! Reimagined Landscapes: Nature-Based Collaging: Explore a new art form in our nature collaging workshop! Use your imagination to design unique shapes and landscapes by combining elements of craft and nature. Feel free to bring your own materials, but other supplies will be provided. Led by Teacher Naturalist and Artist Toni Stober. Welcome to Tiny Tots Fall Series! Toddlers can be naturalists too! Perfect for littles 18 months to 3 years old, join us for story time and nature activities! We welcome a new generation of budding naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for this "grown-up-and-me" style program. We will read books, explore outside, and learn about nature in age-appropriate ways for littles! This program is best for kids 18 months to 3.5yrs.
