Walk with a Naturalist

Spend the hour with a Lorrimer Sanctuary naturalist as we discover some stand-outs of summer! This guided program will allow you to look at Lorrimer through a new lens all season long. Bring your curiosity and tune into the buzz of our wildlife! COST: $10 members / $15 nonmembers IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dress appropriately for the weather. This program is entirely outdoors. Early Bird Beginner Bird Walks

What’s better than catching the sunrise on the way to Early Bird Beginner Birding at Lorrimer Sanctuary? Whether you’re brand new to the hobby or you’d like to sharpen your skills, this course is open to collaborative birders. We will take some time to discuss the frequent visitors to the birdfeeders, and walk through the woodlands to search for our local birds! Fall Migration Bird Walks
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin NJA Naturalists as we explore Lorrimer Sanctuary looking for Fall migrants! As we move through the fall migration season, learn who to look for, who is moving through, and where they are headed ! Join Staff Naturalists Mary Birrer or Kirsten Holt at Lorrimer Sanctuary as we walk the trails and use our senses to identify kinglets, sparrows, and other birds that may be here for just a moment or staying for the winter. This program is appropriate for all levels of birders - first time birders or general nature enthusiasts are encouraged! We will walk up to 1 mile, over generally level terrain. This workshop may also include an indoor session or a change of location (within a 5 minute drive), depending on weather and birds on the day. Great for 3-5 YOs! The Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! COST:$8 per child for members, $10 per child for nonmembers. SCHEDULE: October 7 & 9- Exploring the Five Senses: As we explore, children will be encouraged to make their own discoveries. We will use our senses to ‘tune in’ to the world around us. October 14 & 16- Leaf Art: Let’s take a closer look at leaves. Make outdoor art with colorful fall leaves and learn about the trees they come from! October 21 & 23- Hibernate or Migrate? Who sleeps the winter away and who flies south? October 28 & 30- Brilliant Bats: Boo! Come celebrate Halloween with us by learning about the bats that live in our forests and what makes them so unique! Native Tree ID
