NJ Audubon Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesEnjoy a quiet morning at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 5:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. One person per ticket. Face masks and social distancing required; please bring your own binoculars, loaner binoculars will not be available. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesExplore the Nature Center of Cape May this Fall and learn earth skills connected to the season. Through hands-on experiences and fun stories, children will learn how to make shelter, create a fire by friction, purify water, and harvest food. This is a four-part series, you can sign your child up for one session or multiple! Receive a free hat and discount to a future program for attending all four sessions. September 11th: Shelter Building September 18th: Fire by Friction October 16th: Water Purification November 13th: Autumn Harvest Pre-registration is required. COST: $35 Members, $45 Nonmembers IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This is a drop-off program for children ages 6-8. This program is held outdoors, rain or shine, so please make sure your child has appropriate clothing! Please send your child with a water bottle and a snack. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sun screen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Fall Migration Bird Walks
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin NJA Naturalists as we explore Lorrimer Sanctuary looking for Fall migrants! As we move through the fall migration season, learn who to look for, who is moving through, and where they are headed ! Join Staff Naturalists Mary Birrer or Kirsten Holt at Lorrimer Sanctuary as we walk the trails and use our senses to identify kinglets, sparrows, and other birds that may be here for just a moment or staying for the winter. This program is appropriate for all levels of birders - first time birders or general nature enthusiasts are encouraged! We will walk up to 1 mile, over generally level terrain. This workshop may also include an indoor session or a change of location (within a 5 minute drive), depending on weather and birds on the day.
