New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin us twice a month to hike/walk the grounds of Scherman Hoffman with our new Center Director, Jan Hudson. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas 1:1 or in a small group setting. Share your history, involvement, and love of the Sanctuary, give input and feedback regarding the center and get your thoughts and ideas heard. Get your steps in with Jan while learning more about Scherman Hoffman’s future plans! Walk subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Pre-registration required. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Pre-registration required. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. NJ Audubon: Family Wildlife Treasure Hunt
Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Rd, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher/Naturalist. Join teacher/naturalist Dorothy Smullen for an afternoon of searching for all kinds of plants and animals: vertebrates including fish in the river, insects and other arthropods in the field, and mosses, ferns, and fungi in the forest. We will even collect pond water to search for tiny wildlife under the microscope. Youngsters will have a nature bingo sheet, and older children will have a “Tree of Life” sheet to record the plants and animals we find. Registration required by 9/9 at 4:00 PM. NJ Audubon: Explore Hawk Rise with a StoryWalk TM
Hawk Rise Sanctuary 1811 Lower Rd, Linden, NJ, United StatesLed by Angus Macaulay, NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist Bring a book to life by reading in a unique environment! Take a StoryWalk TM with us through Hawk Rise Sanctuary and discover this wonderful park in a whole new way. While reading the story we will make discovery stops and have some hands-on fun. This program is appropriate for children ages 2 to 6. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The StoryWalk TM concept was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in cooperation with the Kellogg Hubbard Library and the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition. National Coffee Day
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesNational Coffee Day is coming up on Friday September 29th! Get caffeinated with us while we sip some of our Birds and Beans Coffee. Birds and Beans Coffee is sold in our gift shop and is Bird Friendly® Coffee. Rather than being grown on farms that have been cleared of vegetation, Bird Friendly coffees are planted under a canopy of trees. These trees provide the shelter, food and homes migratory and local birds need to survive. Enjoy chatting with our Sanctuary Director about the future plans for Lorrimer Sanctuary and watch the birds through our picture window in our classroom!
