Collaborative birding class at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Great for totally new birders & birders of all levels! What’s better than catching the sunrise on the way to Early Bird Beginner Birding at Lorrimer Sanctuary? Whether you’re brand new to the hobby or you’d like to sharpen your skills, this course is open to collaborative birders. We will take some time to discuss the frequent visitors to the birdfeeders, and walk through the woodlands to search for our local birds! COST: $10 members / $15 nonmembers IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dress appropriately for the weather. This program is entirely outdoors. Morning Walk at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary

Enjoy a quiet morning at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 5:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. One person per ticket. Face masks and social distancing required; please bring your own binoculars, loaner binoculars will not be available. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Summer is a great time for shorebirds, herons, egrets, and terns at one of the best birding spots in the state. It might be mid-summer, but bird migration is well underway beginning in July. Each week should bring different species of shorebirds as they stop to feed and rest at this productive refuge. There are usually good numbers of herons, egrets, and ibis present. Also present may be various terns and songbirds. Multiple habitats here ensure a good variety of birds. Led by Scott Barnes and associate naturalists. Join CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour evening walk around The Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows property! The Meadows, as it’s known to locals, attracts wading birds, falcons, shorebirds, waterfowl, and – sometimes – even owls. Schedule: September: 5:00pm - dusk October: 4:30pm - dusk PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $6 members, $10 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties.
