NJ Audubon: Wildflower ID Made Easy
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin Teacher Naturalist Dorothy Smullen to learn hands-on wildlfower identification. Tired of looking through an entire wildflower field guide looking for that wildflower? Dorothy will show you step by step how to use the identification keys in your field guides. Learn the basic flower vocabulary you need and then practice some hands-on flower identification. Then outdoors for a trail walk to see and practice identifying what’s in bloom. Bring your field guide, and a camera if you like. Registration required by 5/20 at 4:00 PM. One person per ticket. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. Limit 15. Junior Naturalist Club at Plainsboro Preserve

Have your kids join NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist Anne Price for a six-week part series of afternoon explorations and fun. We will expand outdoor skills and build a team spirit all while having a blast. During our classes, participants will learn the skills of being a naturalist. Naturalists use skills to do such tasks as building a survival shelter, conducting a bio-blitz, monitoring a bird nest, and navigating with a compass. Join us and test your naturalist know-how. NJ Audubon: Little Naturalists
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesBring your little naturalist for a nature-based program featuring a story, a mini-hike, outdoor activity, and a craft. Each class will focus on an aspect of the natural world, and the story and activity will highlight the theme. This class will meet every Thursday morning, 10:00 to 11:00, May 5 to June 9. For children ages 3 - 5 and one parent or caregiver. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. Ticket sales ends at 9:00 AM on the Wednesday before each class. Spring Migration Bird Walks
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesGrab your binoculars, it's spring migration! As the days warm, join us for a morning walk as we search for migrating birds like warblers! Learn how to identify and listen for bird species of all kinds during this hour-long birding program. From March-May, we'll walk the trails at Lorrimer Sanctuary looking for birds of all kinds including beautiful migratory warbler species that will only stopover in NJ for a short time on their way north. This program is open to all birders, from beginner to experienced! Dress appropriately for the weather! We will be outdoors the entire time. Island Beach State Park
Island Beach State Park - Park Entrance Median Parking Lot Central Ave, Seaside Park, NJ, United StatesSearch maritime forest for migrant vireos, tanagers, and warblers. We’ll also spend time checking out waterbirds in the marshes. Spring birding at one the state’s most beautiful parks. We’ll look for migrant songbirds and survey bayside wetlands for a variety of waterbirds including herons, ibis, and terns. There is a $5 entry fee to the park if you don’t have a state park pass, vax pass, or are less than 62 years old. Be prepared for a good amount of walking over flat and sandy terrain. Led by Scott Barnes and Associate Naturalists. A NOTE ON MEETING LOCATION! We'll meet just outside of the park entrance, in the median parking lot at the end of Rt. 35. NJ Audubon: Bearfort Waters & Mossman’s Brook Trail Bird Walk
Bearfort Waters Clinton Road, Hewitt, NJ, United StatesJoin Associate Naturalist Dave Oster to bird around Bearfort Waters and the trail along Mossman's Brook. We will bird around Bearfort Waters itself then follow the trail along Mossman's Brook. The area is rich in nesting species and the amount of bird song is impressive. This past spring we had Red-shouldered Hawk, 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Acadian and Least Flycatcher, lots of thrushes including 2 Hermit, and 11 warblers including Redstart, Ovenbird, 4 Worm-eating, 5 Hooded, 4 Cerulean, Blackburnian, and Pine Warblers. Sturdy footwear recommended as the trail is level to rolling but rocky in places. Often very buggy. Please bring your own binoculars, and spotting scope if desired. There will be no equipment available to borrow. Ticket sales end on 5/27/2022 at 4:00 PM. Registration required. Walk-ins will not be permitted to participate. COST: $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Great for 3-6 YOs! The Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! SCHEDULE: April 16- EGGcellent eggs! Learn about animals that lay eggs, plant a seed in your very own biodegradable egg pot, and go on an egg hunt! April 23- Exploring the Five Senses: As we explore, children will be encouraged to make their own discoveries. We will use our senses to ‘tune in’ to the world around us. May 14 - Brilliant Birds: Birds are migrating, building nests, looking for food, and so much more. We'll build our own binoculars and look for birds all around us! May 12th (THURSDAY) is Tiny Tots World Series of Birding day! Please look for this as a separate event. May 28- Fabulous Flowers! Let's celebrate spring by exploring all the wonderful wildflowers that live at Lorrimer! June 4th- Soil Soup! Pick apart soil and learn about the worms and other bugs that live in soil and how they help make our soil healthy. June 18th- Radical Reptiles: Visit with Gordon and Sunny, our resident turtle and snake, to learn about what makes reptiles different from other animals. Children will explore these differences through a hands-on session with our educational animals! COST: $8 per child for members, $10 per child for nonmembers.
