Nature Explorers – Spring 2023
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesJoin Lorrimer's Teacher Naturalist and enjoy watching your naturalist go wild experiencing woodland adventures. For kids 4-8 years old. Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! Best for families with children 4-8 years old. COST: $6 per member child / $8 per non-member child CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Back Bay Birding by Boat on the Osprey
Miss Chris Marina - The Osprey 1212 Wilson Dr, Cape May, NJ 08204, NJ, United StatesJoin Captain Bob and the crew of The Osprey for close-up looks at secretive rails, nesting Ospreys, migrant shorebirds, terns, gulls, herons and more. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Cape May Point State Park Hawkwatch Platform NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Cape May Point State Park and beyond! Not watching birds when in Cape May is like not visiting the Grand Canyon when in Arizona! Join us for a relaxed afternoon of birding whether you are a seasoned birder or have never really watched birds on purpose before. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $8 members, $12 nonmembers. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. Exploring the John Clyde Memorial Native Grassland Preserve for Breeding Birds and Migrants
NJ, United StatesLed by Chris and Paula Williams, Associate Naturalists. We’ll walk through field and forest to look for migrant birds returning to NJ or just passing through. Assunpink WMA
Lake Assunpink Boat Launch NJ, United StatesLate spring songbird migrants plus breeding species including both cuckoos & Yellow-breasted Chat at this productive central jersey hotspot. This productive locale has a mix of fields, woods, wetlands, and lakes. Spring songbird migrants plus breeding species including Yellow-billed and Black-billed Cuckoos, Yellow-breasted Chat and more. We’ll check the lake and adjacent wetlands for waterbirds. Bring lunch and be prepared for a moderate amount of walking over varied terrain. NOTE: there are no restrooms at Assunpink, so plan accordingly. Sometimes there is one port-a-john available. Led by Scott Barnes and Carole Hughes. Kittatinny Point Visitor Center 1 Interstate 80, Columbia, NJ, United StatesA perennial favorite for many breeding warblers and other songbirds in a beautiful setting during the height of the nesting season. Great roadside birding along the scenic upper Delaware River, with a wide variety of breeding songbirds, including Black-billed Cuckoo, Alder Flycatcher, Louisiana Waterthrush, Worm-eating, Hooded, & Cerulean Warblers.
