Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary
This summer, The Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary will feature an exciting new exhibit titled “Windows Into Nature” by local artist David Clair. All sale proceeds from the exhibit will be donated to NJ Audubon. As David relates “Most of the pieces in this show present landscape elements as viewed through abstract windows. The framework is usually done in acrylics and the scenes are some combination of acrylics and collage. The collage elements use magazine papers that have undergone varying degrees of solvent treatment. Using lacquer thinner the printed image can be faded or completely destroyed and the inks quickly worked into the desired texture. In turn, the resulting textures are useful in representing rock formations and foliage in landscapes as well as other textural effects for more abstract work.” David Clair has been painting since the early nineteen sixties. Since his retirement in 1990, he has had more time to pursue his art and has experimented with a variety of collage and mixed media techniques.His work has appeared in shows at the Atrium Gallery in Morristown, the Bernardsville Library, the Morris Arts Gallery, and juried exhibits at the Mountain Art Show, the Somerset Art Association and the Tewksbury Historical Society. “Windows Into Nature” is free and open to the public Wednesday - Sunday throughout the summer. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats — the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. The Harbor Gallery, located at the Nature Center of Cape May features the work of local artists. The art is often nature-themed or made using sustainable materials. NEW 2024! The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Our Naturalists will provide scopes for participants, but bringing your own scope is encouraged. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Our Naturalists will provide scopes for participants, but bringing your own scope is encouraged. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Fungi have been used for thousands of years by humans, not only as food but as medicine, fire-starters, insect repellants, decoration, for religious ceremonies and more. Not only are they decomposers and recyclers in the forest ecosystem, but they also connect to tree roots – a mutualistic symbiosis that might allow trees to communicate with each other. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Each week is likely to be different as we watch the ebb and flow of summer migration. Led by Scott Barnes, Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, Mike Mandracchia, Jason Denesevich and/or Chris Daly. This summer, The Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary will feature an exciting new exhibit titled “Windows Into Nature” by local artist David Clair. All sale proceeds from the exhibit will be donated to NJ Audubon. As David relates “Most of the pieces in this show present landscape elements as viewed through abstract windows. The framework is usually done in acrylics and the scenes are some combination of acrylics and collage. The collage elements use magazine papers that have undergone varying degrees of solvent treatment. Using lacquer thinner the printed image can be faded or completely destroyed and the inks quickly worked into the desired texture. In turn, the resulting textures are useful in representing rock formations and foliage in landscapes as well as other textural effects for more abstract work.” David Clair has been painting since the early nineteen sixties. Since his retirement in 1990, he has had more time to pursue his art and has experimented with a variety of collage and mixed media techniques.His work has appeared in shows at the Atrium Gallery in Morristown, the Bernardsville Library, the Morris Arts Gallery, and juried exhibits at the Mountain Art Show, the Somerset Art Association and the Tewksbury Historical Society. “Windows Into Nature” is free and open to the public Wednesday - Sunday throughout the summer. The Harbor Gallery, located at the Nature Center of Cape May features the work of local artists. The art is often nature-themed or made using sustainable materials. Come meet the artist of the month during the opening reception from 4-6pm and enjoy some refreshments. Art will remain on display and available for purchase throughout the month. A portion of proceeds go to support the nature center. There’s arguably no better all-around summer birding spot in the state than Forsythe NWR. “Brig’s” combination of habitats, easy accessibility, and penchant for attracting rare species make this a perennial favorite. Expect a wide range of species from long-legged wading birds to raptors, rails, and many species of shorebirds, terns, and passerines. Each week is likely to be different as we watch the ebb and flow of summer migration. Led by Scott Barnes, Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, Mike Mandracchia, Jason Denesevich and/or Chris Daly.
