Calling All Young Birders

Tori Sindlinger – Ring-Billed Gull

Calling all young birders! I’d like to invite you to participate in the New Jersey Young Birders’ “Big January” list. The idea is simple – a list of all the species seen by young birders in the state of New Jersey this January is compiled from everyone’s sightings. A joint eBird account called “NJYBC Big JAN List” has been created, so you’d just share your checklists with that account for them to be added in.  Don’t forget that you can always go back and share your checklists from earlier this month!  Also, even if you live in a different state, you can still contribute anytime you happen to hop over to Jersey for some birding.

Participating will allow you to share observations, photos, and audio recordings with a knowledgeable community of young people who all share your passion. This cooperative effort with just the right touch of competition will help you to discover new friends, awareness, and birding hotspots. If you have been hooked by this and want to learn more, please contact [email protected] to get access to the group eBird account. You may also want to join in on this fun guessing game at NJ Young Birders Club – Big January Bird List 2021 – there will be prizes for the most accurate predictions!

So, how many species will we be able to rack up, and how many participants? What species will be the most-reported? Can we cover every county in the state? What amazing bird experience will YOU have this month? Let’s find out, and let’s have an awesome start to 2021!
