NJ Audubon: Timberdoodles – The American Woodcock

February 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Presented by Pete Axelrod, Associate Naturalist

In early March the American Woodcock migrates back to its summer grounds. Along the way they stop in New Jersey where the males perform an amazing song and dance routine to attract a mate.

This PowerPoint presentation will explore how to identify Woodcocks, their migration, habitat requirements, mating performance, and how and where to find them. Hear about some of the current research being conducted into their lives.

Registration for the 2/7 presentation required at Eventbrite by 2/6 at 4:00 PM.

COST: FREE

Negri Nepote Grassland Preserve in Franklin Township features fantastic habitat to witness this elaborate mating routine. On February 27 and March 5, join us at Negri Nepote as we listen for their PEENT calls to locate the dance floor and follow them skyward for their aerial performance.
