Birding Cape May Point – December 7, 2024

Leaders: Roger Horn, Bernie Hodgdon, Holly & Mark Lemiuex, Barry Hershfeld.

Temp: 32° F

Winds:  W 13 mph

Weather Conditions: mostly sunny

The walk at Cape Point State Park was quite birdy for a blustery winter day 42 species. Well over a thousand Canada Geese flew overhead headed across the bay to Delaware. We searched through them looking for a smaller one to be a Cackling Goose but to no avail. Notable species seen today were Hermit Thrush, Fox Sparrow (singing too), a Wilson’s Snipe and still a vast number of Yellow-rumped Warblers bopping about. Additionally, there was a juvenile Little Blue Heron braving the chilly weather it should have headed south!
