Help pull a seine net through the Cape May Harbor to see first-hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Beyond the charming Victorian homes and sandy beaches, Cape May is world famous for its birdwatching, monarch migration, and natural history. Join Cape May Bird Observatory naturalists on a trolley tour to local “natural habitats” (with exits at two spots), learning about the beauty, diversity, abundance (millions of birds, butterflies, and dragonflies pass through each year), geography, and extensive history of this amazing spectacle. Walk the Cove with a naturalist to discover the gifts the sea leaves behind at the water's edge. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats — the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. NJ Young Birders Club-Cape May Hawk Watch
A focused field trip watching migratory raptors and other birds and learning about how we count them at the hawk watch. This trip is open to young birders plus parent/guardian only and designed to teach young birders about the nature of a migration count, where observers conduct an organized count of migratory birds passing by a particular point. We’ll learn about raptor identification, estimating numbers of birds, the weather conditions that favor the passage of many bird species, tips on picking up distant flocks of hawks and other migrants, and more. Time permitting, we may do some birding along the state park trails or other nearby locations. Led by Adehl Schwaderer, Program Coordinator, and Kristal Stahler, George Meyers Naturalist Cape May Bird Observatory. Location: Meets at the Cape May Point State Park.
