Go With the Flow Yoga
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesTake a break from your busy day for a relaxing, nature-infused yoga practice. This is a gentle, all levels class led by owner of Itswell Yoga, Emily Reed. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one (we will have a few extras available if needed). We will practice indoors, overlooking the Cape May Harbor. Nature-based poetry and metaphors will be woven throughout each session. Native Plant Sale
Your gardens will be the buzz, tweet, and talk of the neighborhood when you get off to a good start with top-quality plants. We emphasize the use of New Jersey native plants, which benefit wildlife and have a strong aesthetic appeal for your landscape. What We Owe to Birds – Cape May Spring Fest Musical Keynote Performance
Paul Schmidchen Theatre 687 U.S. 9, Cape May, NJ, United StatesYou may hear birds singing at your feeder or backyard, now it’s time to listen to music inspired by those beautiful sound. Join us at the state-of-the-art Schmitdtchen Theatre at Lower Cape May Regional High School to see the musical presentation: What We Owe to Birds. This performance is a collaborative music and multimedia project meditating on bird conservation produced by five composers of the Princeton New Jersey-based Consonance Collective (CNSNC). Exploring topics ranging from the evolution of flight, flock migration behavior, birds of urban landscapes, birds endangered by forest fires, and shorebirds conservation, this project is brought to life by the BlackBox Ensemble, an NYC-based contemporary music ensemble dedicated to creating adventurous and engaging performances of the music of our time. What We Owe To Birds is CNSNC’s third entry in a series of collaborations with scientific partners, following on the heels of projects with the Space Telescope Science Institute and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: General Admission: $25 Admission with VALID STUDENT ID: $12.5 Children 10 and under: FREE IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please note that tickets purchased are considered general admission to the program and DO NOT include access to the reception. This program is a part of the 2024 Cape May Spring Festival. There is a catered appetizer reception for Spring Festival Registrants only. Heather Holm: The Pollination of Native Plants, A Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project Event
Cape May Point Science Center 101 Lehigh Ave, Cape May Point, NJ, United StatesAre you interested in learning the ecological secrets of our native flowers? Join Heather Holm, a pollinator conservationist and award-winning author, as she explains the developmental journey of different flower types and the presentation of floral resources to pollinators. We will be exploring the types of insect pollinators, their foraging behavior, and the floral features that attract pollinators. Heather will provide many specific examples of how native plants are pollinated and what pollinator is most effective and why. Preregistration is suggested. Writing Nature (Session 1): Watery World
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesCelebrate your inner poet with Cape May's Poet Laureate, Sylvia Baer! These workshops will focus on using the natural world as a "springboard" for writing poetry. We will explore and "play with" several different poetic forms including sonnets, villanelles, and free-verse. And we will use the wonderful resources and views afforded us at our extraordinary venue. No experience is necessary and no one will be required to share any writing. Each session will focus on different elements and be independent of each other. Sylvia Baer who is a teacher, poet, storyteller, and translator has lived in many countries and speaks several languages. She has been teaching English Literature for over 50 years and has created creative writing programs and publications and been the founding editor of several national academic publications. She is a graduate of Northfield School (now NMH), Washington College (BA and MA) and The University of Maryland (PhD), an Associate Fellow of Yale University (Davenport), and was recently named the Poet Laureate of Cape May, NJ, where you can visit her Poet-Tree. Her book, Learning Life: A Memoir was published in August of 2022. WHEN: Wednesday, June 5th 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM COST: $25 Members, $30 Non-member. Harbor Safari
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesHelp pull a seine net through the Cape May Harbor to see first-hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Children may not participate without an adult. Contact us at 609.427.3045 for private group tours and rates. MEETING LOCATION: Meet 5-10 minutes prior to your program time at the picnic tables in front of the Trucksess Welcome Center at 1600 Delaware Avenue. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Beachcombing the Cove
Sunset Pavilion 62 Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesWalk the Cove with a naturalist to discover the gifts the sea leaves behind at the water's edge. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats — the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll search the shallows, comb the shoreline for treasures, and walk along the dunes in search of wildlife. Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. WHO CAN JOIN?: A wonderful program for the whole family! Children may not participate without an adult.
