Enjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. Pre-registration Required. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Spring Family Bird Walk at DeKorte Park

This family walk is designed to introduce novices to the joys of birding at a unique habitat in the Meadowlands! Join us on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM for a spring bird walk designed for young birders and novices, though any level of knowledge is welcome! This event will take place at the beautiful Richard W. DeKorte Park in the Meadowlands, where we will observe vibrant bird life in the beginning of spring migration season. Whether you're a seasoned birder or just starting out, this event is perfect for the whole family to enjoy together. This bird walk is specifically for children, teens, and families. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about NJ's native birds and the wonders of migration. This walk will run rain or shine so please dress appropriately. We can't wait to see you there! COST: FREE FAQ: Is this a drop-off program? No. If the child is 16+ they may attend without supervision but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. What is the recommended donation for this program? Recommended donation is $10 per family. Individuals may donate whatever they wish. Will there be binoculars that I can borrow? Yes. NJA will provide binoculars and any other necessary gear but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Will this event be cancelled or postponed in the case of bad weather? NJ Audubon: Saturday Spring Hike
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin Sue for a guided two-mile nature hike and enjoy the trees, birds, and plant life at Scherman Hoffman Nature Sanctuary. The trails we hike will vary, but we can guarantee beautiful views of our sanctuary. Walking time is flexible but will be no longer than 2 hours. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes; be prepared to walk on uneven ground and up hills. The hike will go rain or shine. We will meet at the Nature Store at the Visitor Center at 2:00 PM. Registration required by 12:00 PM the day of the walk. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Come join us at New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary for a fun and educational birding experience on our observation deck. Whether you're a seasoned birder or just starting out, this event is perfect for all levels of bird enthusiasts. You'll have the opportunity to learn about the World Series of Birding and the diverse bird species that call the sanctuary home. Our experienced birder, Mary, will help you spot and identify various birds while sharing interesting facts about their behaviors and habitats. The Big Stay is perfect for people that would like to participate in the World Series of Birding but aren't interested in traveling around the state or hiking. "Stay" on our deck and let the birds come to you instead of hunting for the birds! Join the team for the whole day, or just the morning shift or afternoon shift.
