Sandy Hook Birding
Sandy Hook - Lot B Hartshorne Drive, Sandy Hook, NJ, United StatesDecember brings building flocks of wintering waterfowl and other species at this coastal hotspot. Good time for building flocks of waterbirds including sea ducks and loons, plus gannets and gulls. We’ll work the beaches for a flock or two of Snow Buntings and Horned Larks, with a chance for Lapland Longspur or another rarity. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking over flat and sandy terrain. Bring lunch. Led by Scott Barnes and Linda Mack. New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesInstructors: Phil Witt, David DesRochers, and Jack Moskowitz, Associate Naturalists The workshop will cover the basic RAW conversion software and essential Photoshop tools, such as levels, curves, the crop tool, and the clone stamp. The workshop will address how to clean up an image, simplifying the image and removing distractions. Participants are encouraged to bring a flashdrive with 2 images (preferably RAW) for editing demonstrations. Registration required, ticket sales end on 12/12 at 4:00 PM. Each day will feature a nature topic, walk, craft, activity, and/or story! We welcome the next generation of naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for our after-school nature club! Designed to be a continuation from our Tiny Tots program, we will read books, explore outside, make nature-themed crafts, and learn about the environment in age-appropriate ways. This IS a drop-off program, but parents are invited to stay and have coffee or chat inside during the program! Homeschoolers welcome! Registration ends at 5 pm the day before each event! We will read books, explore outside, and learn about nature in age-appropriate ways for littles! This program is best for kids 18 months to 3.5yrs. *These programs are hands-on and will get children dirty and/or wet. Registration ends at 5 pm the day before each event!
