Nighttime on the Beach
Mount Vernon Avenue Mount Vernon Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesMeet a Nature Center Naturalist on the beach for an hour of ghost crab chasing! Learn about ghost crab habitat, how they move, and what they eat. Do you think you can catch one? Discover what other creatures are on the beach at night. Pre-registration is required. COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Children may not participate without an adult. Contact us at 609.427.3045 for private group tours and rates. MEETING LOCATION: Meet at the end of Mount Vernon Avenue near the end of the Promenade in Cape May. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Restrooms will be available to the public 30 minutes before and after the program. EQUIPMENT NEEDED: We will provide at least 1 "Ghost Crab Catcher 5000" Flashlights (Cell phone flashlights work too!) CANCELLATION POLICY: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Higbee Beach Birding
Higbee Beach WMA NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area! Famous for migration, we'll search for warbler, vireos, sparrows, and so much more. If the winds are right, we could be awash with migrants! PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Sandy Hook - Lot B Hartshorne Drive, Sandy Hook, NJ, United StatesEarly fall birding at the hook: we may encounter anything from shorebirds and terns to flycatchers, sparrows, and warblers. A wide variety of habitats ensure good bird diversity at one of the state’s best spots. Be prepared for 3-4 hours of walking over flat and sandy surfaces. Led by Scott Barnes, Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, & other associate naturalists. Monarch Tagging Demo

After the talk, watch as small tags are affixed to Monarchs to track their migration to Mexico. And best of all, you'll learn how you can contribute to Monarch conservation! Harbor Art Gallery Opening Reception
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesThe Harbor Gallery, located at the Nature Center of Cape May features the work of local artists. The art is often nature-themed or made using sustainable materials. Come meet the artist of the month during the opening reception from 4-6pm and enjoy some refreshments. Art will remain on display and available for purchase throughout the month. A portion of proceeds go to support the nature center. New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesEnjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. Pre-registration Required. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Negri Nepote Native Grasslands Birdwalk
Negri Nepote Grasslands 260 Skillmans Lane, Somerset, NJ 08873, NJ, United StatesLed by Chris and Paula Williams, Associate Naturalists. We'll be looking for early fall migrants passing through Negri Nepote. We hope to see Blue Grosbeak and grassland specialties including Grasshopper Sparrow and Dickcissel before they migrate for the winter. Please bring binoculars if you have them.  NJA guided nature walks are funded by Franklin Township Open Space Committee. This site is one of the first grassland restoration projects NJ Audubon has implemented for Franklin Township and is now in its 19th successful year.
