A fundraiser for New Jersey Audubon Nature Camps. Join us for games, activities, and good times for all ages! Come join us at Fort Nonsense Brewing Company for a day of fun for the whole family. Enjoy a variety of activities focused on giving you a taste of nature camp fun while sipping delicious brews. **Activities** include camp favorite games, animal encounters, craft stations for the little ones, live music by Kickstart, food trucks, and of course, tasty brews for the adults. There will be something for everyone to enjoy! Don't miss out on this fantastic event that combines nature, creativity, and relaxation. Evening birding at the refuge looking for waders, late shorebirds, and marsh birds. We'll finish by listening for nightjars & owls. We’ll do a leisurely spin around the wildlife drive looking for late shorebirds, breeding species including Clapper Rail, herons, egrets, Seaside and Saltmarsh Sparrows and finish the trip by listening for Chuck-will’s-widow and Eastern Whip-poor-will. Writing Nature (Session 2): The Skies
Celebrate your inner poet with Cape May's Poet Laureate, Sylvia Baer! These workshops will focus on using the natural world as a "springboard" for writing poetry. We will explore and "play with" several different poetic forms including sonnets, villanelles, and free-verse. And we will use the wonderful resources and views afforded us at our extraordinary venue. No experience is necessary and no one will be required to share any writing. Each session will focus on different elements and be independent of each other. Sylvia Baer who is a teacher, poet, storyteller, and translator has lived in many countries and speaks several languages. She has been teaching English Literature for over 50 years and has created creative writing programs and publications and been the founding editor of several national academic publications. She is a graduate of Northfield School (now NMH), Washington College (BA and MA) and The University of Maryland (PhD), an Associate Fellow of Yale University (Davenport), and was recently named the Poet Laureate of Cape May, NJ, where you can visit her Poet-Tree. Forest Stewardship Volunteer Opportunity Come join us at New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary to volunteer and help our staff manage our forest! Theses in-person volunteer days allow you to get hands-on experience in caring for our beautiful forests. Help maintain trails, and learn about and remove invasive species. No experience necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help out! Don't miss this chance to make a positive impact on the environment and connect with like-minded individuals. NEW 2024! The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Our Naturalists will provide scopes for participants, but bringing your own scope is encouraged. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Take a break from your busy day for a relaxing, nature-infused yoga practice. This is a gentle, all levels class led by owner of Itswell Yoga, Emily Reed. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one (we will have a few extras available if needed). We will practice indoors, overlooking the Cape May Harbor. Nature-based poetry and metaphors will be woven throughout each session. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. NEW 2024! The Ocean City Welcome Center has become a must-see breeding bird destination. Join our Volunteer Naturalists for great views of nesting wading birds, including Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night-herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis - all building and sitting on nests. The raised parking lot of the Welcome Center provides very close views of the birds, so be sure to bring your camera to try to capture some amazing photos! The group will spend time viewing these birds from the bridge overlook, as well as taking a short walk underneath the bridge to view the birds at eye level. Our Naturalists will provide scopes for participants, but bringing your own scope is encouraged. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. ACCESSIBILITY: You arrive at a paved parking lot on the upper viewing level. A lower level is available for viewing at ground level via stairs and ramp. Restrooms inside Welcome Center. Notes: The Welcome Center exit takes you into Ocean City. Once in town you can go around a block to get back onto the outbound road. Gnats may be a problem.
