Migration at the Point
Cape May Point State Park - Outer Parking Lot Lighthouse Ave, Cape May PointJoin Director Brett Ewald and CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the streets of Cape May Point! With migration in full swing, every day sees new arrivals! Experience the diversity, abundance, sounds and colors of Spring migration at Cape May Point. We’ll enjoy a bonanza of seabirds, waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds and more in the shadow of the lighthouse and nearby habitats. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $8 members, $12 nonmembers. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s CMBO programs are virtually never cancelled. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. NJ Audubon: Spring Break Fun for ages 6-9 years
Join us at Scherman Hoffman for spring break fun! Each themed day will be filled with super fun Teacher/naturalist led activities and adventures in the great outdoors. Sign up for one or more days. Be sure to pack a lunch. For youth ages 6 to 9 years. COST: $85.00 per day. SCHEDULE: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day Monday, April 1 - Natural Art - Create nature inspired art. Tuesday, April 2 – Enchanted World - Make a fairy house or a gnome home to take home. Wednesday, April 3 – Home Sweet Home - Make and take home some "home sweet homes" for the animals. Thursday, April 4 – Enchanted Woodlands - Make a fairy house or a gnome home for the fairies and gnomes in our Enchanted Forest. Friday, April 5 – Wetland Adventure - Explore the ponds and the Passaic River. Location: 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ Registration required at Eventbrite by March 29 at 9:00 AM. Lorrimer Community Volunteer Day
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin LakesWelcome to the Lorrimer Community Volunteer Day! Help us clean up and beautify Lorrimer Sanctuary for spring! We will run a deer drive, weed our native garden, and do light trail clean-up. Join us on Wed, Apr 03, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Lorrimer Sanctuary for a day of giving back to our community. This event is a great opportunity to meet new people, enjoy nature, and make a positive impact on the environment. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or new to community service, there's a place for everyone at the Lorrimer's Community Volunteer Day. Tasks may include light trail maintenance, walking through the woods for a deer drive, or weeding and garden clean-up in preparation for spring. Please wear comfortable clothes, shoes that can get muddy, and bring a water bottle. Light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring food for break times while we get to know the other members of our volunteer crew! Come be a part of something bigger than yourself and help make our community a better place. We can't wait to see you there! COST: FREE FAQ: Do I need to stay for all 3 hours? No! We will welcome your help for as much time as you have available. Can young children come? Yes, kids can definitely get involved! This is a gentle, all levels class led by owner of Itswell Yoga, Emily Reed. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one (we will have a few extras available if needed). We will practice indoors, overlooking the Cape May Harbor. Nature-based poetry and metaphors will be woven throughout each session. Creative Hands Club: Floating Flower Frames

Arrange a variety of colorful, pressed flowers amongst a transparent background. When framed, it appears as if the flowers are floating. Pre-registration is required. NJ Audubon Learning the Birds by Song Series
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, BernardsvilleLed by Randy Little, Associate Naturalist For beginners and those with some experience, this birding-by-ear series will improve your bird identification skills. More often than not, birds are heard before they are seen (if seen at all!) Learning their songs will add another dimension to your birdwatching. Randy Little is a former NJA board member and long-time NJA volunteer. Randy learned birding as a youngster under the wings of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology’s founders and is a master at recording bird songs for the Cornell Lab. This series will begin Wednesday March 6 and continue every Wednesday evening until April 10. March 6 & 13 classes will cover the winter resident birds, March 20 & 27 classes will cover the early migrant birds, and April 3 & 10 classes will cover the summer resident birds. After the end of the series participants may join Randy on Saturday morning, April 13 for a free, outdoor, “practical hands-on” Learning the Birds by Song walk at the Sanctuary. Registration and fee are per class. You must pre-register for each class you wish to attend. Ticket sale for each class ends at 4:00 PM on the day of the class.
